Recently picked up some Grant Whiskey Highlander figures but I can't figure which regiment they are. Sgts standing at attention in red doublets with Govt pattern ( Black Watch ) trews. the troops are wearing plain Glengarry caps without a checkered band. Since the figures came without the packaging , I have no clue what Regiment they are. Sorry I can't attach a photo.

Does any one recognize this description ?

No mystery old chum - check back to the thread begun by Partner on 23/04/2011 regarding these promotional items issued by Grants Whiskey.

Look under "William Grants Whiskey Collection" in General Glossy Discussion at that date. Some pictures there might help - and many seem to appear on e-bay too - if you're trying to collect all nine of them.

Don't know how historically accurate they are though.
Best of luck - johnnybach

Thanks Johnny, I forgot about that thread when asked for help!

By the way, did anyone find the Castle yet?????? I still need it! Does anyone have a picture of that one?

Thanks!
Tom

Thank Johnny and Tom,
Mine is none of the ones Partner pictured so I am deducing it is the Aand S Sgt in drill order.

Tom - if you can get hold of a copy of The Old Toy Soldier Magazine - Winter 2008 - they have a pic of ALL of the 9 figures set against the backdrop of the castle you are after. Check it out. If someone can post a better pic than that of one - maybe you can photo-copy/cut and paste a facsimilie - until the real thing turns up one day???? Good luck - jb

Hi 4th H,
the figure in trews is the Royal Scots sgt in drill order 1887. The trews are Government Tartan
The A&S figure is wearing a kilt

Regards
Kirk

Although I don't have any of these myself - I think it's a pretty neat marketing idea - so thought I would try and find some pics of how they were attached. I found these two pics on e-bay ( quality varied) - but shows how they were packaged and just slipped over the neck of the bottle.

Bet they had a few "liberated" before they were sold! johnnybach

I'm trying to remember who made them. I remember the article you cited, John, I have that in my stash, I'm pretty sure. I recall something that it was suggested that Britain's made them, but it's been a while since reading that article.

Prost!

Brad,
Can you post a photo of the Winter 2008 article? Mainly want to see the background. I thought I had this mag, but I dont!

Sure thing, Tom! I'll check the stacks tonight. I'm pretty sure I have that issue.

That reminds me, I need to renew my subscription....

Prost!

Tom - I couldn't get the image to go any bigger - but the cover looks like this - which has the figures set onto the background of the castle that you're after - which is the Winter Issue for 2008. jb

I have three of these, which are going into a frame someday. I don't like the way they are so "Toy-like", although the painting is very good.
