Great War Movies Vs The Last Decade's War Movies (1 Viewer)

Among Vietnam films predating The Green Berets was..

The Quiet American (1958)

Well that is good point Scott. Although it isn't generally thought of as a "war film" it is about the Vietnam War or at least the early part of it. Now that you mention it, there are also

Bushfire, 1962
The Ugly American, 1963
A Yank in Vietnam, 1964
To the Shores of Hell, 1966
A Bullet in the Head, 1967

I guess the Green Berets is often credited with being first since it was a major studio effort about the American military involvment.

Anyway, Go Tell the Spartans is also not the first after Green Berets, although it is a good guess since the book, Incident at Muc Wa, came out in 1967.

Go Tell the Spartans?

Go Tell The Spartans was in the mid '70s. There was China Gate with Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra made in 1957 was about Viet-nam. There was also "A Yank in Vietnam" made in 1964, I remember seeing it as a kid.
It was a later movie that the Green Berets, was the Australian film, The Odd Angry Shot. I thought that is was a great war movie.

Lost Command starts out in Vietnam...

This movie is based on an excellent book, "The Centurions" by Jean Larteguy. Great story that starts out as Dien Bien Phu is falling. Most of the story takes place in Algeria. A good read. As to the movie, I think it is pretty good. Even George Segal, who is cast as the Arabic leader (!), does well. It is worth seeing. -- Al
