A friend of mine in Greece was kind enough to sell me some of his special commission 1912 Greek Evzones.

In an earlier post, I had mentioned that I was going to start ordering a Balkan War, 1912 non-catalog series of toy soldiers from Hiriart. Starting next year, and every year thereafter until I cover all the countries involved, I will order soldiers from two countries. I am starting with Greeks and Bulgarians in 2013. In 2014, I will order Rommanians and Montenegrans. Serbs and Ottomans in 2015. After covering all the countries, I will, assuming an interest from other collectors, order additional sets to include the Cretan Gendarmerie and a Greek Artillery Gun Team in their green uniforms with kepis. The nine figure sets will each have an officer, flag bearer, bugler, and six men.

Mike,

Will you be taking on any additional orders of these sets of Balkan War Greeks?

Hi Mike,

Yes, I will. Currently, I have you, Bob Walker, and me down for a set of the Greeks next year. Bob and I are also down for the Bulgarians.

I just bought these Greeks off of ebay. Under the base they read "St Georges Cross". They focus on the Greek War of Revolution.
The first is not of a specific figure in the revolution.

The next is one of Yannis Makriyannis St. George Cross 70 mm Yannis Makriyannis.jpg
The next is Georgios KaraiskakisSt. George Cross 70mm Georgios Karaiskakis pic 3.jpg
Last there is Markos BotsarisSt. George Cross 70mm Markos Botsaris pic 2.jpgSt. George Cross 70mm Markos Botsaris.jpg
I hope to eventually purchase another for Patron Germanos and Kolokotronis.

On an impulse I picked up this hoplite painted by Marina Lyuster.

Here are some Spartans (by Conte and painted by yours truly) at Thermopylae:

Great work! I wish I could paint that well.

How long did it take you to complete all of them?

I am slowly trying to build up my collection of Conte Spartans but in metal and already painted.

Keep 'em coming.

Mike,
Out of the nine available plastic Spartan sets, I've painted seven so far. The remaining two sets are still in storage (may start on them next month, or when I go to the Cape in September). It took me a little time to track down all the sets. You need the nine sets to complete a Phalanx and a Shield Wall, plus show the Spartan characters from the movie 300. It almost takes me between 4 to 5 days to complete (prime, paint, & matte spray varnish protect) one set of 8 figures. You can see my metal Spartan and Persians by Conte in my posted albums. I am short only one metal Persian set, thankfully still easily available. Wished Conte pursued in making plastic Persians so I can deliver a proper ratio of Persians vs. Greeks in a diorama at a reasonable cost; plus a Xerces command set. Even though Conte advertised future sets, never saw them hit market.

Enjoy the albums, and I will be keep 'em coming.

Correction: There are 7 figures, not eight in a set.
Here are photos of available sets #'s 1 to 4

Here are photos of Conte Sets #5 to #9. Each set has 2 figures toward a shield wall, 3 figures toward a phalanx, and 2 unique figures.

There are very awesome collection given by you, I have never seen these kind of toys before. After looking that I want to know that how can you make that toys? If I also want to buy them, then where I have to go? I think you have more information about that toys.

Follow this ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Conte-Colle...Toys_Games_ToySoldiers_EH&hash=item4844f34c58

They are available on eBay under Conte Spartans, or you can go to one of the larger Toy Soldier dealers like Hobby Bunker.

They are made with the same accuracy as the painted metal versions, also by Conte. Regards, Charles

CBG Mignot Greek Line Infantry 1917.jpg
This set of Mignot Greek Infantry arrived the other day. I paid too much though. I am using a photo off of Le Petit Soldat website, from where I should have bought it. My set is different because it has only one rifleman but has a drummer.

Two very popular Greek toy makers are PAL and Athena (AOHNA in Greek). Athena bought out Pal and used some of its molds. Both companies only made plastic toy soldiers. Shown here are an alpine commando and a UN officer.

The next two are metal copies done by collectors of Greeks. The one in white is an Evzone officer in white dress and the other is of a Greek Royal Guard, when Greece had a king Pal Mold Greek Evzone officer in summer dress by Dimitrios.jpgPAL AOHNA Greek Evzone of Greek Royal Guards pic 2.jpg

I was visiting family in Wisconsin so I stopped at the Toy Soldier Shoppe. I picked up this King and Country Hoplite.

Pestana Soldiers of the Queen Greek Evzones.jpg
I just picked up this set of Pestana Evzones. There are only ten in existence.
MikeNick

Hi MikeNick,

Often, I have admired the Pestana figures and hoped I could add some of them to my collection. However, I have never seen this set. The fact only ten have been made helps explain why I have been unaware of it.

The Evzones are incredibly beautiful! You are a lucky man to add those figures to your collection. My compliments for an outstanding addition! And,...thanks for sharing the set with us!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)
