I was going to post this for Johnnybach or the britfarmer, as an unusual figure. Instead I decided to join in the trivia fun and see if anyone could explain why a Lance Corporal of The Life Guards would be riding a grey instead of a black! (The answer's not complicated)

Martin

P.S. it's the picture that's dirty not the horse!

The only answer I can think of, is he's a trumpeter.

Am I correct sir? johnnybach:p

No, trumpeters don't wear plates, the sheepskin would be black and the plume red.

Is it something to do with an obscure ceremony like brickhanging?

It's either to do with "What have the Romans ever done for us" or a shortage of green paint!:D:D

Sorry, still trying to get used to the new layout of the forum......

This is "Brick Haging"

Maybe the rank is causeing a problem. He would usually be a trooper. It's not a obscure parade but he would do it only once here, he will have done it once at the Guards Depot and he may do it once with the regiment. Think how the Household Cavalry is different to anyother regiment.

He's not a cook who makes exceedingly nice cakes then? jb

Hmmmmm....keep thinking bach:eek:

Something to do with not having any Sergeants, corporal??????

Am I getting any warmer??????????????? jb:confused:

Is it ANYTHING to do with trumpeters? They sometimes wear white plumes - when playing with the band - I think?:confused:

ONLY trumpeters ride white nags - don't they?

Could it be a horse from an ice-cream vendor that he is minding until the man comes back from s shopping trip???

Did the horse take fright and turn pale?

Giss a clue Billy!

As close as you're going to get. It's a passing out parade photo. Riding school has a bunch of different horses, so that you get used to riding anything, it goes back to the days when you could have a horse killed under you! He's a lance corporal in riding school because he served with the armoured regiment first. All ranks do riding school together with everyone being equal until qualified.

Sneaky! As a lance-jack I had discounted him from being at recruit level for anything - threw me for a while that one. Why no "L" plates on front plate and back - or even the gee-gee?

Same on most courses though - all ranks in - no favours asked - or given. Quite right too. jb

Traditionaly a young horse wears a green tail bandage but nowadays we wear a high visibility jacket with the words "Young Horse" written on it. By the way she was called Frida and she was a steady old thing
