I dug these out recently - 16 figures in total which I'm selling in two groups.

First group is 10 loading and firing figures and the second group is 6 advancing.

Condition overall is very good throughout. There are some paint chips here and there and dusty but these guys display great!

Please see photos below. I am asking $150 for the 10 figure group and $90 for the 6 figure group. Shipping is additional.

10 figure set sold. The casualty figure was swapped into the larger set so the six figure group now contains a figure standing and firing.

Hi Gideon: The package of ten figures arrived today. They are perfect. I placed them in my curio alongside the five figures I have...the same as your remaining six (excluding the bugler). I wanted to know if you knew how many in this line that Alan Silk...Guard Corps Ltd actually made of the dismounted Confederates. In other words was it twenty figures? More? If you have pictures of the remaining made including guidon bearer I would be most appreciative to see. Again thanks so much for just making this line aware to me a few years back when you posted photos and a thoughtful story of Alan Silk and his selling and setting the figures up. Your subsequent sale at a great price just topped off the experience. It is good to resurrect stories of a line no longer made although I have heard Ted Deddens of Ted Toy is selling Union figures of the Guard Corps moldings through a far eastern manufacturer. Yes they are gloss but they are superlative: well molded, historically accurate and since no one else has made a line of dismounted ACW Confederate Cavalry these are the only ones to make a plausible depiction work and they fit the bill well. Apparently Richard Walker at Britains has taken my lobbying of dismounted Confederate Cavalry to heart as he revealed to me in e mails that more Rebels are on the way. Already a circa 1861 dismounted First Virginia Cavalry trooper is part of the line of five Collectors Clubs figures to hit the market later this year. Knowing the superb sculpting of master craftsman, historian, reenactor deluxe Ken Osen, I suspect that the Guard Corps figures will get a run for their money knowing the consistent quality that WB puts out.People like yourself really put the joy into this hobby. Take care and stay in touch.

Hi Jeff,

I'm really happy you like them.

I don't think there are many sculptors out there who will ever get the natural poses Silk got into his figures. Ever.

Alans sculpts are truly natural and caught the movement at just the right moment between static and awkward.

Alans work was unique and his style, I think, is under appreciated.

By the way, my dad put a matte finish on his GC sets. They don't look right in matte finish. These belong in gloss.

Anyways, I'll take a look at set number and take some photos. I'll do a post and encourage others to add to it with info they may have. I honestly don't remember how many figures there were to the series.

Its great that somebody is still making use of the castings but its not the same as having the figures Alan painted himself in your own hands.

If any one out there has additional Guard Corps Ltd. dismounted Confederate Cavalry that are not photographed in this thread (16 shown) I'd be interested in purchasing them. Send me a PM and we can discuss. Looking for the guidon bearer set (5 figures) in particular.

I have some of their catalogs, and I'll see if I can scan them and post them back here over the next couple of days.

It is correct, there was a Chinese company that had some of the molds, FairTech, Inc, I think was the name (used to have them bookmarked, but I can't find it now). Bear with me, please, on my memory on this--I can't remember if Alan passed away first or if Ed Lober did. I think it was Alan. In any case, the surviving partner was looking for a larger manufacturer to take on casting and painting, and start selling again. I think that FairTech was the company that he negotiated with, but at that time, the deal fell through. I do not recall if the company acquired the molds when the survivor passed on (though I recall that his daughter liquidated a small supply of boxed sets that were left behind, mostly from the Alexander Grenadier and Wehrmacht series), but I do know that about 4 or 5 years ago, FT had the Grenadiers and Union/7th Cavalry sets depicted on their website. I exchanged emails with the owner or manager of the company, who seemed like a nice enough fellow, but the sets weren't yet for sale.

I apologize for the spotty nature of this story. I've got more info archived on an old PC but can't get to it at this time.

Prost!
Brad

Thanks Brad for the offer to scan in some catalog photos and to post them. I'm just trying to ascertain how many figures were made in the series so that down the line I have an idea of what I have and what I need. Right now have 15 of this set and want to add to it to complete the lot. The Fair Tech figures are sold through Ted Deddens at TedToy but only of the Union Cavalry dismounted. Not even sure if it is a full set of offerings. Makes the Confederate set more collectible but elusive as well.

Well, I didn't find as much info as I had hoped. I went through the catalog sheets that I have, and only one lists the dismounted Union and Confederate cavalry. But this may help, in any case.

There are 4 Confederate sets listed:

"Set 14A - Corporal, 2 Standing/2 Kneeling Firing & 1 Kneeling Loading - $100.00
Set 15A - Trumpeter, 2 Standing Loading, 1 Standing Firing & 1 Wounded - $85.00
Set 18A - Sergeant, Standard Bearer, 2 Running, 1 Kneeling Firing - $95.00
Set 19A - Officer, 3 Running, 1 Standing Firing - $85.00"

There are 5 Union sets listed:

"Set 1A - 3 Standing & 3 Kneeling Firing - $100.00
Set 2A - Corporal & 5 Standing Loading - $100.00
Set3A - Guidon Bearer, Sergeant, 1 Wounded & 2 Firing - $95.00
Set 10A - Stone Wall (2 Wall Sections & 1 Sitting Wounded) - $35.00
Set 11A - Officer, Trumpeter, 1 Running & 2 Kneeling Loading - $85.00"

I just noticed, too, that they misspelled "cavalry" as "calvary", heh.

This must be one of the early catalog sheets, before the line was expanded. The Kaiser Alexander sets don't yet include the second review party set.

Hope that helps, and if I find any more documentation, I'll post it back it here.

Prost!
Brad

Brad: Great research. Thank you. Now I have to convince Gideon to pull out set #18A, photograph it and upload it.
