Dear All

Welcome to our first figure release for 2017 and a mixed bag with more additions to our Spartans and of course our very popular Romans, plus a smattering of WW1 and WW2.

SPA002 Thrust & Parry; The second Spartan in our series blocks a Persian sword with his shield and prepares the return thrust as soon as the opportunity arises!

SPA003 Waiting Ready; Our third Spartan standing ready with sword in hand

SPA004 Spartan Sentry; A useful figure standing on guard or waiting in reserve

SPA005 Kneeling Ready; Our last Spartan for this month kneeling and waiting to go into action

More Spartans in a month or two, some great looking enemy figures will be available soon and on our website workshop page for preview. For those of you waiting for Spartans with cloaks, and armed with Dory's these will also be on the way soon.

All the above Spartans are now in stock priced at $49/£39 inc VAT and ready to ship, although we do not plan to limit them, we have made 100 of each for this initial batch. If they sell well then we will make more, if they do not then this is it I am afraid! Last but not least a big thank you to Larry Bradley from Treefrog Forum with his help and research on the above figures, anything wrong please blame him!

ROM031 Full Thrust; A legionnaire puts in the killer thrust to an enemy of Rome. Comes in the normal 3 versions with A being the Minerva legion, B the 30th and C the lost 9th Legion. The A version is unlimited so long as demand warrants it, the remainder are limited to 100 pieces each and all are priced at $49/£39.

ROM035 New Legionnaire Sentry; This time with Pilum in 4 versions, A being the Minerva legion with blue trousers, B the 30th, C the lost 9th Legion and D the Minerva Legion again but with green/brown trousers for those of you who want to spice up your parade a little. The A version is unlimited so long as demand warrants it, the remainder are limited to 100 pieces each and all are priced at $49/£39.

ROM038 Cornicen; Limited to 1 version with 100 pieces worldwide and priced at $55/£45 per figure.

ROM039 Marching Centurion; A newly promoted (from within the ranks) Centurion marches out to inspect his men or can just as easily be placed at the side of a marching column. It was common practice for newly promoted Centurions to wear their old Legionnaire armour until new armour could be made or ordered in for them, especially if on campaign to some remote spot. Our new Centurion (the previous two have now sold out in all versions) is priced at $49/£39 and available in the normal 3 variants whilst stocks last.

GW072 The Poet Siegfried Sassoon CBE, MC; One of the nation's greatest war poets Sassoon became a focal point for dissent within the armed forces after seeing the futility of the continuation of the war in 1917. Awarded the Military Cross for bravery under fire and recommended for the Victoria Cross, Sassoon was an inspiration to the men under his command who considered him to lead a charmed existence, oblivious to enemy fire. He was admitted to a military psychiatric hospital towards the end of the conflict, after his literary piece 'A Soldiers Declaration' was read out in the houses of Parliament by a sympathetic friend. It was in hospital he formed a long lasting relationship with Wilfred Owen another war poet. Sassoon eventually returned to the front line but was shot in the head almost immediately by another British soldier who had mistaken him for a German! Sassoon went onto survive the war and became an author with some notable successes afterwards. He died in 1967 aged 80 years old. Our depiction of Sassoon has him writing notes perhaps his 'Soldiers Declaration' which got him into so much trouble with the authorities? Priced at $41/£32 and limited to 100 pieces worldwide.

GB002 Scots Guards Marching; Another addition to our Guards on parade, this time marching in true military fashion. We have made an initial batch of 100 pieces worldwide, if the demand is there then we will make some more, if not then once again this is it! For those of you who were at the London show you will have probably seen our Sgt Major and two NCO's that will be reviewing the parade along with our Jeep, all of which will be available soon. More Guards on parade are set to follow in 2017, this one is priced at $41/£32 each and is available now. All these figures can be found on our website www.tomgunn.co.uk,For those of you on the lookout for more news this is it I am afraid, however be on the lookout in February for our Avro Lancaster and a Henschel 129 tank buster! For those of you waiting for our Roman war elephant the crew have now been completed and we have gone to paint stage, pictures to follow as soon as we can.

Best wishes

The Gunn Team

I'm very glad to see a Sassoon figure. He was not only a great poet (and partially Jewish) but his Sherston trilogy (published in the late 20s and early 30s) are outstanding works of literature. I plan on picking up this figure.

I am familiar with the UK Manual of Arms, but does anyone know why he is marching with his weapon upside down?

Lets all make 2017 a good one and have TGM release the much awaited Legion Fort.

Keep it silly

I really like the Sassoon figure. I did quite a bit of research on the war poets while I was at university. I'm still waiting for the promised Prussian Landwehr command group to be produced. It was supposed to be released in 2016, so hopefully they will be included in February's releases.

Cheers,

Brendan

Great new Romans, have 62 of the 9th Legion already and will be adding the new sets, in the cabinet without an enemy they look as if they are training. Cannot wait for the Britain's to add to my range.

The Spartan's look great and will be buying as well.

Think TG are pushing forward the TS hobby.

The Spartans are enticing but I need to see some Persians before I commit.
Some Roman cavalry and mounted Tribunes would enhance this line as well.

From a personal point of view what I would like to see in the Roman Minerva range is a slight variance in some of the helmets. What I liked most about FL's original range is that some of the figures were still wearing the earlier pattern coolus helmets as they would have done as the new Gallic helmet was being phased in. I'd love to see perhaps a helmet variant of ROM001 and ROM005 so you can have a bit of a mixture in your advancing column. I think it would enhance our collections no end!

How do other TG Roman collectors feel about slight variances?

Yes, I have read that Roman legions were more "standardized" than truly uniform. There should be some minor variations. They would receive different types of equipment if they redeployed (made by local craftsmen), older Legionaries (especially after Augustus) would keep older kit that they were familiar with, etc.

Just received my new Centurion and a couple of the new ROM035D's and I am not very happy...............I am ecstatically happy!
