Welcome to Junes releases from Gunn Miniatures and we hope you enjoy them as much as we did making them!
ROM004C Repel Cavalry
The C version of this great looking and unique set which has been very popular with collectors so far, this time in marking of the 9th Legion and limited to 100 pieces.
The order to repel cavalry by Roman officers brought about a defensive formation, in which the front rank formed a kneeling tight wall of shields with their pila protruding to form a line of spearheads. Undoubtedly it would be very hard to force a horse to break into such a formation. The most likely occurrence would be that the cavalry would come to a halt of its own accord ahead of the spearheads. It was at that moment that horse and rider would be at their most vulnerable against the rear rank stood behind the first line of infantry, who would then hurl their spears at them. Given the short distance and the training legionaries received, it is likely such halted cavalry, frantically trying to turn their horses around to retreat, whilst colliding with horses following in the charge, would prove very easy prey.
If one further considers the possibility of archers being present, the effect on a cavalry formation could indeed be devastating. For those of you wondering, there are indeed plans to make a high quality Celtic war chariot to run up against our Romans later on in the series. ROM004 comes as a 2 man boxed figure set and is priced at $95/£75 per set which is a small reduction if you were to buy the 2 figures separately. For those of you wishing to buy multiples of 5 or more of these sets we do offer the facility to pay over 3 months, if this is of interest please email me at your earliest convenience. More Romans next month to add to your legion!
FJ031 Puppchen anti tank cannon with FJ crew. We are now coming to the end of our FJ series for a while but we have 2 last sets with heavy weapons, one of which is the very unique looking Puppchen which fired an 81mm rocket and could take out any Allied tank during WW2. The Raketenwerfer 43 to give it its official name was a reusable artillery piece utilised by German forces during WW2 with over 3000 pieces being produced. However the Puppchen was expensive to produce compared to the Panzerschreck and although more accurate than hand held anti tank launchers it was never made in the same numbers as the Panzerschreck or Panzerfaust. Our set comprises a gunner and loader in typical late war Fallschirmjager uniform manning their Puppchen in anticipation of the latest Allied tank assault.
The A Normandy version comes in a 3 tone camouflage and the B Winter version with skis attached and a whitewash overcoat. Priced at $120/£85.00 and limited to 100 of each piece worldwide.
RS039 Japanese Command set featuring 2 officers discuss the battle at a makeshift conference table somewhere in the Far East. Comes in two versions with the A version wearing tropical green marine uniform and the B version wearing the more traditional khaki army uniform.
Limited to 100 pieces worldwide and priced at $89/£69 for the 2 figures which includes the table and two swords.
RS040 Japanese telephone operator comprising a Japanese soldier taking notes whilst on a field telephone to his comrades, looks great with RS039 Command set. Limited to 100 pieces worldwide and priced at $55/£45 for the set which includes Japanese soldier with table and radio.
SS057 German 80mm mortar set with two German soldiers in camouflaged jackets as they prepare to lay down fire for this comrades. $95/£75 for the 2 figures and the mortar plus 2 mortar shells complement the set to make a great diorama piece.
KM002 Dead Kriegsmarine sentry figure. Comes in 2 versions, A version in Navy blue uniform and B version wearing white trousers. Priced at $41/£32 and limited to 100 pieces of each version.
KM003 Officer with Bergmann machine gun. The A version wears Navy blue uniform and has our traditional round base allowing figure to be used in a battlefield scenario when ad hoc Kriegsmarine units were thrown into the front line or with a square grey base which allows the figure to be used in a dockyard scenario, perhaps fighting off some K&C Commandos? Priced at $41/£32 and limited to 100 pieces of each version.
KM004 Shouting Kriegsmarine soldier.
For those of you wondering KM001 will follow later this year and will be of a boat nature!
GB001 Scots Guard sentry in battledress and number 1 dress peaked cap. The Scots Guards were formed in 1642 under a decree from Charles 1st for service in Ireland and were initially known as the Marquis of Argyll's Loyal Regiment. During WW2 the Scots Guards were based in North Africa, Italy and France.
A Corporal version of this figure will also follow to beef out a squad for those of you who want to make a parade style formation.
A Canadian Commando version of this figure will follow shortly as well as an RAF sentry.
In the works we have some more parade style Scots Guards marching as well as an officer figure to command them.

For those of you who asked about future WW1 air and ground crew figures I have attached a picture of some prototypes that have not quite made it out of the factory yet. They include 2 Naval pilots and some Tommie's that can be used in an airfield or a rear area army trench/camp scene.
The first ones will be available next month as well as 3 new sets of Roman figures, so plenty to look forward to as well as our Anniversary set!
so great looking figures there, especially the Japanese set with the officers at the table, and using the same figures with a change of head, make this a very economic use of a sculpt.
I would sure like to see the same pose with a couple of Napoleonic officers, so come on Tom, have a go at that too
The Puppchen is an Interesting weapon to model. It was effective at 250m and could take out a tank at 500m if it could hit it. The Paanzerschreck was effective to 150m and the Panzerfaust to 60m. Here is a propaganda film from 1943 showing the use of the 3 anti-tank weapons. It starts about 6 minutes into the film. At 6:59 you can see the distance to a T-34 that the Puppchen is used against. That is followed by demos of the Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust. Note how much closer the weapon is to the tank.
I really love the Romans.. But prefer WWII, especially FJ winter version.. Would love to see Thoman Gunn releasing a German Field kitchen, also winter version, including line- up of hungry men...
