Welcome to our first newsletter for 2017, a little change from the norm in
that this one will be an all 1/30 scale WW2 wooden warbirds newsletter and
the figures will be released next week. For those of you who are regular
readers of our newsletter you will know that all these aircraft models are
hand carved Mahogany and take over 60 hours to make, as such they are
limited edition models and highly collectable.
Our first aircraft WOW113 The Gloster Gladiator was a single seat British
built fighter, the last Bi-plane to see service in the RAF and RNAS. It was
obsolete before it even entered service, as the newer faster monoplanes
being produced for the worlds other air-forces worldwide had already
superseded it in terms of performance. Though often pitted against more
formidable opponents during the early days of WW2, the Gladiator performed
well in combat. The Gladiator saw action in just about every theatre during
WW2 being utilized by the RAF in France, Norway, Greece and most notably in
the defence of Malta. It was here that Gladiators from the RAF base at Hal
Far were at one stage (for 10 days) the only fighter cover available to the
island of Malta, where they fought bravely against the Italian and German
air-forces. The myth that 3 particular aircraft Faith, Hope and Charity were
the only Allied aircraft in operation has now become the stuff of legend and
it is fitting that our first Gladiator is ‘Faith’ from the Hal Far flight.
The Gladiator was also used by China against Japan and on the Eastern front
by Finnish and Swedish pilots fighting the Russians, both producing several
notable aces. Armed with 4 x Browning .303 machine guns and with a top speed
of 253 MPH, the Gladiator was well liked by its pilots with the Allied Ace
Pat Pattle, scoring 15 of his 50 aerial victories whilst flying a Gladiator.
Finally withdrawn from service on all fronts by 1944, the Gladiator passed
into history leaving behind a enduring legacy that still lasts to this day.

Fittingly to combat our Gloster Gladiator we have also introduced an Italian
Air Force Reggiane Re.2002. The Re.2002 project begin with a conversion of
the Re.2000 and Re.2001 both of which were already in service or under
development with the Italian Air Force. The first prototype flew in October
1940 and was used mainly as an attack aircraft as it could carry a
considerable payload, 18 examples were converted to the dive bomber mode. In
September 1941 the Italian Air Force ordered 200 aircraft with delivery
beginning in March 1942. These aircraft equipped the 5° and 50° Stormo units
and saw extensive action against the Allies at the Sicily landings. The
Luftwaffe also acquired some 60 x Re.2002 and used them against the French
resistance in the ground attack role. Our Re.2002 WOW0114 was one flown by
Italian Ace Giuseppe Cenni the commander of 5° Stormo, who was killed whilst
attacking units of the 8th army at Calabria on September 3rd 1943. Limited
to 12 in number worldwide the Re.2002 is priced at $599 which includes free
postage worldwide, UK and EU please contact us for a price in £ as postage
rates will vary from country to country. The FJ Military Police figure shown
in the attached photos is included free with this model.
The Henschel Hs 126 WOW108 was a Luftwaffe two seat reconnaissance and
observation aircraft derived from the Henschel Hs 122. The Hs 126 first
entered service in 1938 after operational evaluation by the legion Condor in
the Spanish Civil War. Early on in the war the Hs 126 equipped several
Luftwaffe reconnaissance units but was eventually replaced in this role by
the Fieseler Storch and the Fw 189 “Flying Eye”. On 12th September 1943
Henschel 126’s were used in arguably their most famous role to tow 10 x DFS
230 gliders to the Gran Sasso, in a completely successful rescue bid to
liberate Mussolini, an operation which left the world totally taken aback
for its audacity. This model is a high wing parasol type like our Lysander
and is such very difficult to make, for this reason we have only made 5
models in this release. Priced at $825 which includes free postage
worldwide, UK and EU please contact us for a price in £ as postage rates
will vary from country to country. The FJ Military Police figure shown in
the attached photos is included free with this model.
