I started playing with my base that Ken and Ericka have prepared for me - and I am one happy customer.

First, I started with Matt's First Legion figures from the Borodino battle. I knew very little of that battle (except for watching "War and Peace" a couple of times), but upon closer review became enarmoured with the birch trees that populate this area of Russia.

Here a recent photo from a local reenactment of the battle:

Further, the battle was in September and hence late summer in Russia.

The base consists of three independent parts, the "Wild Grass Base" with the road, a strip with the birches and one individual tree that can be removed for transport, to be planted in another diorama or at a different spot in the "Wild Grass Base. It has a pin that does require a predrilled hole.

For the purposes of the first photos of the base but itself, I picked a very plain blue background, but I do not think I will use that too often with figures.

Unpacking my purchases from the last two days, I could not help dropping them on my new base. Figures are from First Legion and Aeroart and I really like how they interact with the base from H&A. These photos are to show the base. Once I have a more creative moment, I will start playing with my figures on the base and will focus on those.

Kudos to Ken, Ericka and Heidi as well as Matt and Thor.

Excellent new base and it compliments those lovely figures exceedingly well. The First Legion figures look great with your Aeroart one. I eagarly look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Everything looks fabulous. Matt has done a fantastic job with his figures and Ken & Ericka with their base. And of course your goodself for photographing them.

For those who consider asking Ken to do a similar base: the Brodino landscape was also witness to a battle in WWII:

The Battle at Borodino Field was a part of the Battle of Moscow, on the Eastern Front of World War II. While referring to the battle in Russian, the Borodino Field is actually more commonly applied rather than just Borodino, cf. Georgy Zhukov ("...this division [32nd] was forced to cross the arms with the enemy on the Borodino Field...").

At noon on 13 October 1941, German Junkers and Messerschmitt aircraft appeared over the Borodino Field, site of the climactic 1812 French-Russian clash. On October 16, severe fighting broke out in the center of Borodino Field. Subsequently, the Germans managed to take the field. The Spaso-Borodinsky Monastery was burnt and the Borodino Museum suffered damage. Borodino Field was freed by the 82nd Soviet Rifle Division during the counter-offensive.

A monument was later erected in the field with the inscription in bas-relief: "Here, on the lines of the sacred Borodino Field in October, 1941 the heroic units of the 5th Army have been fighting to the bitter end, rebutting the furious onslaught of German fascist usurpers".

... just imagine this were the battle Matt picks for his WWII collection? ;)

Wonderful impression! Thanks for this pic, Andanna!

H&A did a really nice job on the trees, Andreas! They look very convincing.

Will you have a shot of your whole dio for us when you've finished? :D

Prost!

My base was custom made by Hudson & Allen. Their products are available through Treefrog Treasures as well as directly from Hudson & Allen. They do not have a website, but Ken and Ericka Osen are present on this forum and I recommend you drop them a PN/E-Mail.

Just in the event, I misunderstood your question and you were not inquiring about my H&A base, but the one in the photo I attached from the Borodino reenactment: The answer is, I am not sure. I think I got that base second hand from a company called Gods Inc. It is severely damaged and does not look like much from close. It was nevertheless very expensive and I think it is custom-made. Gods Inc. said they needed (with extras) seven days to do it (I am sure that one of the seven days they charged they took off to admire their work and have a couple of beers).

There is no question that Ken Osen could have done a better job, if you ask me. Especially the extras seem to be self-destructive. :D
