NFL - Positive - Donnie Shell is finally getting his due. Stats don't lie yet they kept him out of Canton for what seems an eternity and it took a literal ACT for a celebration year to finally get the credit he deserves. Negative - Drew Pearson from the Cowboys is still not in...……………..he is the only person on an ALL DECADE TEAM named by the NFL NOT in Canton. Boggles the mind. Still up for grabs - If Troy Polamalu is not a First Year inductee this year, I will be shocked. Ed Reed made it on his first try and Troy was even more dominating in his career and oh yeah - WON more. We will have to see. On a side Note - LC Greenwood RIP is still not in the Hall of Fame b/c there are too many Steelers from the Curtain in there...……………….Again, BS.

MLB - Even after MLB followed Dave Parker for a year and did a documentary, he STILL doesn't get in? ***. Every peer and pro agrees this is a disgrace. Somehow still not in. Horsecrap plain and simple.

Rock N Roll - Judas Priest (4th highest vote getter) is snubbed again in favor of...……………….NOTORIOUS BIG, are you Fing kidding me??? The Rock Hall is one of the biggest disgraces I have ever seen, will not be watching that BS show this year.

Hall of Fames have become plain BS over the course of my lifetime, why have them? The best and most deserving are not always getting in if at all, that is wrong and it is not that hard to see who the best are or the deserving. Way too many politics and ulterior motives.

The NFL landscape is littered with players who have been overlooked by their respective Hall of Fame. Besides Pearson here are a few more:

Randy Gradishar LB Denver Broncos:
7× Pro Bowl (1975, 1977–1979, 1981–1983)
6× All-Pro (1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983)
7× All-AFC (1976–1979, 1981–1983)
NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1978)

Cliff Branch WR Oakland Raiders:
3× Super Bowl champion (XI, XV, XVIII)
4× Pro Bowl (1974–1977)
3× First team All-Pro (1974–1976)
NFL receiving yards leader (1974)
2× NFL receiving touchdowns leader (1974, 1976)

Roger Craig RB San Francisco 49ers:
3× Super Bowl champion (XIX, XXIII, XXIV)
NFL Offensive Player of the Year (1988)
4× Pro Bowl (1985, 1987–1989)
First-team All-Pro (1988)
Second-team All-Pro (1985)
NFC Player of the Year (1988)
First player in NFL history to catch and rush for over 1,000 (1985)
NFL 1980s All-Decade Team

and any number of offensive lineman since they don't have "stats";

Surprising that it took George Young this look to make it. An incredible GM.

Glad the Doobies made it. And T Rex. Long overdue. BIG? Don’t know what to say.

Brad:

I have to admit I did not know much about George Young until I read your post.

After doing some reading about him, I have to say he clearly should have been in the Hall a long time ago.

Notorious BIG and Whitney Houston got in.

Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest and Pat Benatar did not.

They should just rename it the "Pop Music Hall of Fame"...……………

I won't watch one second of that ceremony and I've watched all of them.

And I like Depeche Mode, but they are not a rock and roll band.

The Pat Benatar snub is ridiculous, she should have been one of the first ones in.

Jason, he was instrumental in bringing the Giants back. At that time the Maras didn’t get along and Pete Rozelle recommended George and they hired him. He used to go on WFAN radio quite a bit and he was a common sense kind of guy who knew his stuff. He always impressed me.

Brad:

In 18 years as the Giant's GM he was NFL Executive of the Year 5 times (1984, 1986, 1990, 1993, 1997). That means he won that award more than a quarter of the time during his tenure.

That is more than enough to get him into the Hall.

Again thanks for bringing him to my attention. Without your post I would have glossed over his nomination.

YUP. And not only did they not get in, a couple of other headscratchers:

A. Ozzy Osbourne - Solo - he is in as a singer of Black Sabbath but not as a solo artist................................BS. His work with Randy Rhoads ie Crazy Train is by far one of the most recognized songs EVER.

B. Iron Maiden - the epitome of British Metal - still selling out Arenas worldwide. Just to tell you how much success they have had: They own their own Air Force 1 (747 Jumbo) and as a band of 6 members, the lead singer recently went through an amicable divorce. His wife got...................37 Million in CASH! If you start doing math, with 6 members to have the kind of wealth they have is unbelievable monetary success. That is a strong statement in a business where people have to like AND BUY your product.

C. Motorhead - without Motorhead, thrash, speed, fast metal never exists. Lemmy was the best Hard Rock/Metal bassist to play, he wrote more songs beyond his own band than anybody ever realizes, "hits" for other bands, jingles, theme songs, etc.

And yes, there are more snubs - Pat Benatar is a great example, Thin Lizzy (both this year). If you ever want to throw up, go to the Rock Hall and actually look at whos in, some completely boggle the mind.

The difference between the NFL and MLB ones are I think IMO they are snubs about who should be there, the Rock Hall is both ways, snubs and ton of crap that SHOULD NOT be in the Hall.

I might be in the minority but I think Pete Rose should be in.

I was done with the rock and roll hof when they inducted Neil diamond and Run DMC and Joan Baez. And how Ozzy is not as a solo artist is beyond belief. If it wasn't for the blizzard Of Ozz album in 1980 Heavy metal as a genre was toast by all accounts. Pat Benatar is not in but Joan Jet is?

As far as the Baseball HOF and Pete Rose, I was always of the opinion he had the records he should be in. Then about the time they let Pete back into a ball park to see a world series say 17 /18 years ago a reporter repeatedly kept asking him did you bet on baseball? Do you regret it yada yada. I happened to mention this a few days later to a client of mine that I thought Pete should be in. Now I had known he was a former FBI agent but what I didn't know was he was a SAC for the St Louis office, This normal mild mannered and very self disciplined guy lost his mind with anger. And in no uncertain terms( lots of swearing from a guy who never really swore) told me that he was the Sac who ran the investigation into the Pete Rose deal. His statement was " We had him dead to rights not only betting on his own team but against it as well. And the commissioner didn't want it to go forward. The other thing he said was in every club house there is a sign that says if you bet on baseball you will be banned for life.( been there since the black sox) and Pete walked by that sign everyday and still bet on baseball". There was more but that's the short version.

While I can't confirm this account I do not believe this man was lying as it was the only time I had ever seen him loose his temper in the 10 years I dealt with him.
So maybe Pete shouldn't be in the HOF. But if I went to Cooperstown I would drive the block to see Pete too. No one has ever played the game the way he has period.

He may have bet on the games but so have 1000's of others.Just like the current stealing sign scandal that it may be more then just the Astros. Bottom line is was it ever proven that he threw a game? Bottom line is that he has HOF credentials.

Mark

Thousand of players have not bet on baseball and it’s wrong to accuse them of doing so unless you have proof. I’m sure that a lot of other teams have done what the Astros did but that has nothing to do with betting.

No proof, but there has been a lot of innuendo for years and the betting by close relatives, etc. I have always thought it was a scandal just waiting to break, but no proof and I am sure IMO and speaking for me, it is a scandal i hope never breaks in any of the major leagues.

As to Rose - he deserves to be there. He hurt himself, he gained nothing from his bad decisions and there are several convicted and accused felons in the Halls, his stats speak for themselves and he changed the game.

Last comment on Dave Parker, as it just pisses me off too much to discuss further, he was another one that changed the game and he has lots of stats but because of his testimony in a cocaine trial, he is seemingly blackballed. Now he has Parkinsons, near the end of his life and is still getting screwed and snubbed, it is just not fair. I think I already posted this, but I saw him in Pittsburgh last year at the game, he was there with his wife and I got to shake his hand again (having met him a few times), he is still a strikingly athletically tall individual, a literal giant, it just sickens me the way he is treated, doesn't deserve this. Baseball's first $1M man and a revered and respected and feared opponent. Nuff said.

It's not that he has credentials. He still holds like 15 or so all time records in baseball. That's a incredible number. And baseball has always been a dirty game. Sign stealing has always happened, grease balls, spikes in slides and on on on. Was Pete Rose any more of terrible human being than some guys in the 30s or 40s ? Not even close. Cobb was nasty Ruth was drunk.
All the steroid guys Sosa, McGwire, Bonds did more damage to baseball than Pete ever has.
However if you walk by a sign everyday going to work that says " if you do this this is the punishment" Well you broke the rules Live with it.

Based on the numbers Pete should be in the hall, Based on the rules Pete should not. However I also believe Pete's is handling it right by setting up shop right down the road from the HOF

Tom the other thing very few ever talk about when it comes to Pete is how he elevated everyone around him. He was a such force of personalty that he made everyone who played with him better. The work ethic was off the charts.

George, agreed. I listen to both XM's Classic Rewind-25 and Classic VYNIYLLL (deep voice there) -26 and was shocked that those esteemed artists didn't make it. I am so behind the times I was shocked that weren't already in!

Those two channels are my go to's along with several others...…………………..it's crazy none of them made it.

George Seifert belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He has not even been a finalist and yet among this year's list of finalist and inductees he has the best winning percentage (better than Bill Cowher and Jimmy Johnson, this year's inductees) and he has 2 Super Bowl wins, (1 more than Cowher and as many as Johnson).

With all due respect to Johnson and Cowher, Seifert should be in the Hall.
