Gidday to All Aussies worldwide,

YOU HAVE A BEAUT AUSTRALIA DAY.:smile2:

For myself and family about 12 Noon all my good mates of some 50 years and their families will arrive and we will fire up the Barbie (Lamb chops and cutlets, because as they say that Australia was founded on the sheep's back) and knock the tops off quite a few cool ones. Cool beers to all my Yankee and Rebel mates in the U.S. of A.^&grin

Cheers Howard

Happy Oz day to my fellow Aussie brethren. Not much happening in my back yard today but I will probably go out in the evening for a beer!

Tom

Wayne556517,

This gives me a chuckle; my parents were European - German/English. I lived in Germany almost ten years, and aside from getting sloshed in the base German kantine in the morning after the last midnight shift, it was quite normal to have a beer or two with breakfast in any Frankfurt restaurant. Alcohol is, or at least was, consumed when hunting etc.

Here in the U.S. there is a dominant and bizzare attitude towards alcohol. My take is that it is a CULTURE problem. Not so much about an inherent evil of alcohol, rather more about some people that have no self control.

RPZ,

Aint that the truth! I "Learned" how to drink in the service in the Far East. Specifically in Japan where Sapporo, Asahi and Kirin are sold in every Coke Machine on every corner. Next to tea, coffee and soda. I was blown away, yet you don't see kids walking around the streets drunk or acting a fool with alcohol. When I "graduated" to "MIZU WATI" whiskey and water (Suntory, Crown, Etc) there was a whole (expensive) etiquette to it. Plus, don't forget the whole sake ceremonial thing as well (hot in the winter-cold in the summer). So, yeah I was definitely a connoisseur of the booze from Japan to Korea and the Philippines.

Then one day at 26 years old I stopped drinking and have not drank since. Don't get me wrong I can manage a sip of Dos Equis now and than, but I mean a sip and can probably count on my hand the amount of booze hits my lips on one hand a year. The only time I ever hit the Crown is when I fly and I am a happy man. Anyway, when I came back CONUS I did not understand how (talking about your culture point) folks just could not handle themselves. I mean I drank with Japanese dudes that drank me under the table and would see them the next day and you would think nothing happened to them. Meanwhile I am dyeing! I remembered that...marveled at that...heck I respected that.

So, that's all I got to say about that, but Beer for Breakfast? Hey man to each his own, but how do you fit in the coffee?

Well for me it would be one or the other with breakfast. And I think life in the service has introduced many a soul to cigarettes and copious amounts of alcohol.
