The "fun is running 6 miles of hills and one mile of hurdles at an all day cross country camp in Michigan and not being able to walk but knowing that I will have yo wake up at 6:00 a.m tommorow to do it again. It's the best birthday ever!

("Birthday?! You kids--we didn't have birthdays when I was your age. We just got older. And we had to give everyone else a present. They were made of coal, 'cause that's all we had. And you know what? We were happy with it. We'd play all day with our coal toys, then our mother would call us inside for a bowl of coal soup. We'd have a piece of coal bread with it, and you know what-we were happy with that. If anyone complained, Mom hit him with a piece of coal. She'd say, 'You kids better appreciate that coal soup! There are plenty of starving kids in China who'd love to have a bowl of coal soup,' she'd say. Then we'd go to the movies and see three movies for a penny, or three pieces of coal, which is what we used in those days. There was a short, and a cartoon, and then the main feature, usually about the coal barons..."
