There seems to be some confusion about the latest K&C airplane release the Hawker Typhoon.
In the K&C catalogue it is described as belonging to the 257th squadron . Well the 257th sq known as the "Burma" squadron never had ZY as a squadron code but it had the "Chinthe" or Burma lion in its crest. Their Sq codes through the war were ML/DT/FM/A6. In 1944 they were based at Tangmere and moved later to Need's Oar Point before crossing the Channel into France.
The 247th squadron However known as the China-British squadron ( 124 wing) flew the Typhoon MKIb MN17 and had the codes HP/ZY on their fuselage( ZY from 1942-1949) Their motto was "Rise from the East" in recognition of the donations made by the British colonies to form two squadrons. They were heavily involved in attacks prior and including D-day. They operated from RAF Predannack. Late june 1944 they moved to Coulombs in Normandy.
