Bromhead - I have some bad news for you on today's military.
Although a few of these events have been overplayed for the drama and TV script sake - the preoccupation with Civ. Collateral Damage was and still is one of our major issues to fight effective in Iraq. If you speak with several Soldiers / Marines from Private up to Officers - they will tell you stories that would blow your mind.
Some of the issues even effected Chairman Hunter's Son - a Marine Captain - and it convinced him to run for his Dad's Seat in Congress to take on the Pentagon.
After my time with Sec. Rumsfeld - I am glad I am a Lobbyist now - so I can stop dealing with this "modern army"
Agreed,I am in touch with one of the finest officers I served with,bn xo,,his sons are serving Capt. and above,West Point-OCS,two are leaving at the end of their time ,do not wish to continue the career, multiple Afghan and Iraq tours. One latest example being the Aquittal of a marine rifle squad on charges-warcrimes etc for actions last year? in Iraq ,without a lot of publicity as opposed to the blitz of coverage when the story came out.
It must be a tough enlistment these days with the deployments ,rules of engagement ,obvious dangers. I have met several young soldiers active and at the VA facility here,,,agreed as to the ex sec def to say the least,my ex neighbor, full bird ret survived 11 years at the pentagon.
