Similar to Father Goose, I saw this movie set in WWII about a marine and nun stranded on an island and finding solace in each other's company while evading the Japanese troops. Starring Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr, it was directed by John Huston. I did enjoy this movie but preferred Father Goose which had a rosy ending. It also wasn't as funny or satisfying as "The African Queen".

Love this movie as well!

This is another good movie, but I agree about Father Goose being the better show. -- Al

Another great old movie where "acting" and "interactions of the characters" is the key.

Mostly, it is just the two of them through the entire movie. There is a bit more theatrics with the Japanese landings and the Marines pounding the pudding out of the island before they land, but that adds to the movie.

My take -- Father Goose - 49% <=> Heaven Knows Mr. Allison 51%.

Mostly because of the ... Don't sit under the apple tree tune ... although the darn thing is hard to get out of your head once you hum it a few times --- Larry

Hell In The Pacific is a favorite movie with only two characters.

Yes ... the philological "war" that Lee Marvin and Toshirō Mifune waged was epic.
Now that I think a bit harder this movie TRUELY has only two characters where the others have a few minor or supporting characters.

The common theme in all of this great flicks is great actors / actresses doing what they do best ... ACT!

Anyone else think of only TWO characters in the entire movie?

Of course a newer release is Gravity with Sandra Bullock.
NOW that is one girl that I could easily be stranded in space with and not mind a bit.

Comparing Deborah Kerr's role as the nun here with her other nun role in Black Narcissus, the latter role was better and more convincing. Robert Mitchum's acting here was just as a moonstruck Marine, no witty dialogue when compared to Cary Grant's role in Father Goose. That Apple tree tune does get under your skin, doesn't it?
