Well done John :salute:: deployed.... mark 1 sons figure prop spin {sm3}

It has been brought to my attention that this is a 'Wildcat' rather than a 'Hellcat'. My thanks to the member who sent the correction via PM rather than identified my error to the world!

Indeed!............................:wink2:

One is a Frog, one is a Cane Toad.

One can never have enough Wildcats. My favorite USN fighter of the war. It held the line until the Hellcat (which was designed to defeat the Zero) came along to replace it. Excellent model of the iconic aircraft.:salute:: -- Al

Heck, just call USN fighters that are painted blue Grummans. The Buffalo were transferred to shore stations at the first whiff of grape, and the Corsair didn't go to war on American carriers until the Kamikaze nonsense began. Can't go wrong with "The Iron Works:"

Give my compliments to the builder, Martin. Really like his handling of the antenna wire. :salute::

Slang can be a pretty weird deal to with. No, I'm not expressing offense here. Speaking of informal references to French soldiers, have any of our readers ever done a Bing image search for Poilu? I had no idea.{eek3}

More examples...

In my youth, what is widely known as a garrison cap, was known as a cunt cap. Wouldn't go near that one with a ten-foot pole in a military setting nowadays.{sm0}

Not too terribly long ago, I used the term schwarzes in reference to a display of some John Jenkins' German ground crew figures. Attributable to the color of their dungarees, the term stuck and was used long after the black clothing was retired. Well, in at least two languages (that another board member and I are aware of), schwarzes is a racial slur.:redface2:

There are more, but I think that you get my point. Again, I'll never forget what appeared on my screen in the way of images when I searched for Poilu, a real shocker.:eek:

Grumman rules! With a nod towards Douglas and it's incomparable Dauntless.:wink2: -- Al
