Hi

Hope I havent posted in the wrong place- if I have- feel free to blame it on my "recruit"/ "trainee" status.

My toy soldier interest started at the age of 9 with a Timpo box set (1/32 scale), consisting of a cardboard base, plastic sand bags and a quantity of Series 1 & 2 Timpo Germans, and also including a Bren Carrier, a 25 pounder artillery piece and numerous Red and Black berets, Aussies and US troops.

The following 30 years saw my collection expand to include Crescent, Dinky and Britains artillery pieces, Deetail vehicles and figures- and approx 1200 Airfix 1/32 -both Allied and Axis. I was lucky enough to obtain both the Italian Infantry and British Infantry- though never in the quantities necessary for my campaigns.

I automatically collected the Airfix Modern British, Modern German, US/ Nato, SAS and Modern Russians when they appeared. Again however the Australian market was never supplied with the numbers needed by collectors.

Now have K&C buildings and Conte troops and am avidly seeking Build- a -rama items.

Sorry I have no pictures- maybe for next time ;);)

regards

Welcome to the forum Patton. Your Aussie humour is also welcome....:D:D Its a lively place sometimes and also full of good information on a diverse range of subjects - not always concerned with toy soldiers. LOL. :D

I am very grateful to all of you for putting up with my thousands of witterings!:D

Rob

Welcome aboard Patton. Interesting that "Patton's" icon is a Tiger Tank. I guess he either likes his target or wants to trade up from a Sherman.

Rob,
Putting up with your witterings is no hardship whatsoever. Keep it up mate.
BTW, that's 4404 now....LOL :D:eek::D

Thank you Harry!.Michael i understand what your saying, spare a thought for my poor wife!!:D:D

Hallo again !!!

I appear to have started something here !!:

I dont wish to hijack my hallo message but I thought an explanation from me was due regarding my Tiger avatar.

The truth is somewhat more prosaic than "upgrading" from a Sherman. (Dont tell anyone but it was the first decent tank I found on Google. I'm going to have another look and see if there is anything better.)

BTW dont ban that other Aussie too long- I need someone on the same timezone (and no I'm not going to argue about anthems).:eek:

regards

Welcome to the forum - LOVE THE TAG NAME :D

What periods do you collect??

Collection type

Hi Capitolron

Started on Timpo:
Wild West: Cowboys and Indians, Union and CSA cavalry and infantry. Have the Wild West City and Wells fargo coachand lots of Indians mounted and foot and Teepees etc and the Cavalry fort.

Still Timpo: Went onto Foreign Legion have a base mounted fort with foreign legion and Arabs- both mounted and foot. Also have small quantity of knights.

Stiil Timpo: WWII -black and red berets, Aussies, British, and Series 1 & 2 German, artillery pieces and Bren Gun carrier.

All of the above were childhood presents: much loved and cared for- still in vv good condition although the Timpo figures are now fragile (esp the horses).

Spent my own money on Airfix 1/32 from an early age. Have rarities eg SAS, Modern British, Mod German, NATO/US, Mod Russian, WWII Italian etc .....about 1200 in total. Got some Crescent, Dinky and Britain artillery. Got an original Airfix strongpost etc

Moved onto Deetail figures and vehicles (only WWII) but having to pay collectors prices is a bloody pain- the reissues have been a godsend but they are only limited in range (see my other posts).

In summary I have been a solely WWII skirmisher for near 25 years (well thats my excuse for getting them out) and with the barbed wire, tank traps and ruined buildings (K&C) and Tamiya tanks I can get a very good battle going.

Hope thats not too much info :)

regards

Wow - A long time collector ! Glad you are with us.

What about current Toy Soldier Companies - K&C, Conte, Britians, John Jenkins - have any of those ??

Hi Capitolron

Sorry the budget doesnt extend to metals.......and I'd rather have 60 plastic than 20 metal .....

I am currently collecting plastic Conte WWII, loved the innovation shown in the British and US Paras and the German troops...... BUT the problem as you all know is the H..U..G..E time delay in the releases.

In case you think I'm whinging I was one of the victims of the Conte building fiasco that occurred several years ago- put several hundred dollars down as full deposit with a dealer- only to wait 12 months and then be told NOT COMING :mad::mad:. Of course I got my money back -but thats not the point.

And of course Australia is always regarded as the lowest priority of distribution of new issues- it makes it very hard. Sorry it may be off- topic but the lack of availability is a vv sore point with me. I guess you can call it the "downside" of collecting- watching everyone else crow about having something which is denied you.

regards
