I need some help with the original K&C 1776 figures. Although I am a long time toy soldier collector, I am not really familliar with K&C figures. So, I could use some help in the following areas.

1. Are their any rare or valuable figures from this line from ar-01 to ar-032
and from br-01 to br-23.

2. How much value is lost without the original boxes?

3. Has the price of these increased or decreased over time?

4. I have 43 pieces that I've had since 2001. Is it easier to sell them in one lot or break them up on EBAY.

5. Although I wish to sell them, I am in no hurry and don't wish to rush into a deal that will result in a loss. If anyone is interested I can email you a listing at NEVINSRIP@AOL.COM.

Thanks for your help..........Bill

Bill:

Even though I closely follow King & Country I do not keep up with this series.

This certainly is the place for information, as I'm sure someone on the Forum

will provide you with good information.

Generally boxes are important, however I have not noticed any major drop in

the value of items sold without them.

Best of luck, sorry I could not offer more help.

Not to disagree with John, but I think lack of original boxes hurts the resale unless you find someone who really wants them. If you notice the recent trend on ebay, there is a gentleman selling WW2 vehicles, most very rare, yet he is not getting high value nor are some selling at all. Believe it or not, he has the Rommel command car set (Original one) on there that is rarely seen and it is getting zero action at $300, none of his pieces have an original box and I think it is hurting his sales.

As for individual pieces, I know the artillery sets and gun crews bring decent value. Individual figures not so much, but I am not an expert on this series, so I would assume there might be a few that bring good value.

Hope this helps a little,

Tom

The question of the boxes brings up the issue of collecting for enjoyment or for investment (having original boxes will add to the value). If you're looking to have monetary value, of course, having the box will be more important than it would be to someone just looking to put together a collection.

On the collecting-for-investment side of the coin, it's interesting to me to consider that all of the newer-maker figures, eg, K&C, Frontline, are collected by adults, who don't really play with them, in the same sense that old toy soldiers were played with, and that virtually all of their output will still be around 30 years from now, 40 years, and so on. It's interesting to consider what affect that might have on the value of anyone's collection in the distant future.

Prost!

I agree with Tom that "boxes" are important for high dollar resale on ebay. What you have when the original box is available is the COMPLETE PACKAGE for the Collector - as if he had went to the K&C store himself.

On AWI figures - I believe you will find that those early figures AR-01 / BR-01 will sell well without the boxes. There are many collectors out there who -like me - still looking for more figures in our AWI K&C Collections - no boxes should not hurt the resale chances for those collectors.

I would not sell them all together - the market right now on ebay is starting to stay away from BIG PRICES like it did 12-6 months ago - I personally believe the economy is starting to effect ebay. By selling them all together you would put yourself at a disadvantage for getting true value - than if you sold them individually. You might not sell each one - but, firing figures and marching figures should command a high price and make up for that.

You should plan on two waves of selling - sell each figure individual - give plenty of time for everyone to see them to bid. Then whatever you have left I would bundle them up and sell the lot to finish off what you want to rotate out of your collection.

AWI figures are still a sought after figure in the market - so don't worry about them "not selling" I have found ebay a great place to take parts of your collection or "hard to find" figures and selling them for a good price - giving you the chance to reinvest in your collection.

I believe we will be seeing a lot of these sales in the near future as more and more wonderful stuff comes out from Andy & K&C - Collectors will say - "I am tried of that diorama and lets sell it for a profit and get these new figures for my next diorama" Different collectors have different views on their collections - not everyone keeps (or even can due to space) their figures forever.

Good Luck with your sales - I will be one bidder looking for them! ;)

I think one major issue with lack of boxes is the concerned that if the sets are not in their original boxes, which were specially designed for shipping, the sets may arrived damaged. Their are many collectors and experienced sellers that know how to pack toy soldiers, but many first time sellers do not.

I had once bought a toy soldier lot in which the seller wrapped them in tissue paper and just put the entire lot loosely in a box. Of course, they arrived with bent rifles, damage, and several paint chips.

I could not have said it better myself, good point about in demand singles will sell better than certain ones. I have also noticed Flag bearers command more along with the previously stated artillery. With all of these being retired, you might be the only seller at the time selling them which certainly can't hurt.

AWI seems pretty hit or miss. Here in GBUrg, there are a few shops were you can still get some of those figures at retail. I bought AR01 for $20 and tax last year. The boxes never made a difference to me either way- I think Mascleo hit it though- the box provides some measure of assurance that the figures will be properly packed.

I know the first mounted Washington is fetches some premium prices as does the arty sets- if you have those, I would venture they would be your big dollar sets.

Which figures in this series are the most desireable? I am not selling off the cannons and crews so don't include them. For instance I do have the French Flagbearer and a lot of French infantry. Here is what I have. I do have multiples as indicated by the number on the extreme right. I have boxes for AR 6,20,28,31 and 32. Br 21 and 23. Thanks ...........Bill

Hey Bill

I really wouldn't be the guy to ask as I only recently got on board with AWI last year myself. I can tell you from what I have seen and observed at shows and on the web, that the arty pieces and crews seem to go pretty quickly and at a premium (which probably doesn't do you much as you aren't getting rid of them). I have seen the first GW go for a lot as well- again, not on your list

Regarding the foot sloggers, up in the air- especially with EBay. I have seen quite a few of these older AWI figs pop up here in Gettysburg and they are sold at retail. I have seen some online vendors list them at double retail and they appear to be sitting and sitting and sitting.

I would guess that if you are looking to get some money rather quickly, sell em at retail- especially here on TF- I have sold some of my Highlanders at retail in a few hours. Otherwise, if you want a markup I guess drop em on the Bay and see what happens.

Take care

Bill,

From past and current eBay sales here is what I would say would be a fair price (my opinion only others may disagree). It does depend on the market and who wants then. Assuming excellent condition and no box (add $5 to $10 with original box).

AR-006 PA RGT RIFLEMAN RUNNING $25-$30
AR-011 FRENCH RGT RIFLE AT TRAIL $20-$25
AR-014 FRENCH OFFICER $20-$25
AR-015 FRENCH DRUMMER BOY $25-$30
AR-016 FRENCH STANDING FIRING $35-$40
AR-017 FRENCH KNEELING READY $35-$40
AR-018 FRENCH CHARGING $30-$35
AR-019 FRENCH FLAGBEARER $100-$125+
AR-020 CONT. MARINE OFFICER $25-$30
AR-028 NJ BLUE MARCHING $35-$40
AR-030 FRENCH OFFICER W/ T’SCOPE $20-$25
AR-031 FRENCH SERGEANT $20-$25
AR-032 FRENCH MARCHING $20-$25+

BR-001 FUSILIER STANDING FIRING $40-$45
BR-002 FUSILIER AT READY $40-$45
BR-005 10 TH LINCOLN RUNNING $35-$40
BR-007 10 TH STANDING READY $35-$40
BR-008 10 TH KNEELING FIRING $35-$40
BR-012 FUSILIER KNEELING FIRING $40-$45
BR-013 FUSILIER STAND LOADING $40-$45
BR-021 10 TH LINCOLN SGT W/PIKE $30-$35
BR-023 10 TH LINCOLN MARCHING $35-$40

Hope the above estimates help.

But then again they could go for double the above prices or half the above prices. Really does depend.

WOW!! I didn't realize that French Flagbearer went for so much- must be a really nice piece- can't say I ever recall seeing one.
