I was approached by a local collector of die cast vehicles who at an auction bought a 'job lot of toys' and wanted help in identifying some toy soldiers that were included.

These figures have stumped me

good bye girl.jpg good bye.jpg

They look to me like a set of 3 being a lady waving her man off to war, a Sergeant Major ordering the soldier to get in line, and the soldier waving to his gal.
The owner gave me the lady as a gift, but I feel they should all be together, so can anyone identify the maker?

There were also 3 artillery gun teams. I could identify the two Bastion sets are C1 'RA in khaki with a 5" howitzer' and C2 'Chinese Artillery Peking 1900'
but I cant find anything about this one .........

Kingcraft.jpg

It was in a blue box with 'Kingcraft' on a label. The set looks like a 5"Howitzer of the Royal Artillery with the gunners in drill order.
Can anyone identify the set and give me any details of the company because I can't find anything in my resources?

Hi, John!

The Tommies in the first group make me think of Tommy Atkins or one of the brands in their catalog, but I'm going to take a look at their website to confirm. Your logic is sound, about the woman, though I disagree. I think that if she were from the same maker, she'd have a base like theirs. It wouldn't necessarily have to be so, but it seems more likely to me, based on other makers' figures that I've seen.

No idea about the field piece and crew. I'll have to look through my references, too.

Prost!

Well, a quick look through the catalog on the TommyAtkins/Fusilier website turns up nothing in the Tommy Atkins, Fusilier, or Hussar catalogs. Not conclusive, of course; it depends on what they decided to upload and display there. But it does tend to refute my theory. I definitely think they're from a similar British maker, just have to do some digging through hard copy now.

I'm curious to hear what the rest of the gang think, too.

Prost!

Took a quick browse through Fleurbaix' catalog online, too, but didn't see your Tommies or the gun and crew. Though maybe Abram will see your thread and comment, too.

Prost!

I forgot to ask yesterday, John-are there any markings under the bases of the Tommy and the sergeant major?

Just a guess here, but the Brit infantrymen and the woman waving goodbye reminds me of a set called "Goodbye, Dolly Gray", or something similar. Perhaps this will trigger some memories. Another set I'd like to add to my collection.

I think the screw gun set might be Steadfast . . .

The set shown with the three figures (woman, sgt maj, pvt) is, in fact, an AQM set, shown in the 2007 catalogue as: TB37 ‘GOODBYE DOLLY GREY’ - Infantry Private, Sgt. Major and Dolly Grey.

Got my artillery sets mixed up . . . not a mountain gun and crew, but garrison artillery. Still think it's Steadfast.

Thanks Al,

I can see them on the AQM catalogue on Imperial Miniatures website who now own the moulds.
The painting is better on the website, so I'd say mine could have been castings that someone painted. I will do a repaint of them all to match others in my collection.

As fat as the gun goes, it doesn't look as crisp as a Steadfast gun, and I think it was in a box with Kingcraft on it, but i can't find anything about that company.

Dear John,

The Boer War figures are All The Queens Men. A set called Goodbye Dolly Gray. I don't know the other set.

Regards

Concur - Goodbye Dolly Gray - Original Derek Cross All the Queen's Men Production.

Kingcast Artillery Set - forget which one it is, but obviously British Regiment.

Hope that helps!
Tom
