Yo Troopers, anyone know much or collect the 7000 series from 1983. I bought 7 the other day just for interest only £4.00 each. Two Lifeguards, two Horseguards, a standard Bearer, a Farrier, and the Queen. Didn't know when I bought them that the horses are larger than the usual Britains size. Question is, are there any other items compatable, with these ie, foot soldiers marching, guards & Scots etc to make a Cerimonial parade, they are not bad items at the price and you could make a nice display with them at a reasonable price. Any info would be great Troopers berfore I decide what to do with them, but they do not go with my old Britains items. Just for interest what about this for a superb set # 1722, but big dollars item but wouldn't we love to have a set.
Bernard.

During the 70's and 80's, Britains made a series of sets under the 7000 series -- perhaps 45-50 different sets. Many of the sets contained only infantry, and all were compatible in size.

Go to http://membres.lycos.fr/toysoldiers/, and click on set gallery. Plus they are on ebay quite allot -- but I don't think they will all be as cheap.

Bernard: here is Britains set 7219 -- which contains both cavalry and infantry figures, so you can see the sizes of each.

When you purchase sets from the 7000 series remember a couple of things -- in the early sets first issued by Britains, the Guards hats were some type of rubber as well as some of the rifles. Later they switched it to all metal hats and metal rifles. Other attachments, like swords, saddle blankets, etc., in the early sets were also made out of rubber.

Britains are still making these figures. Although the mounted figures have a base. They are compatible with the new figures that are being made. I collect mainly ceremonial items so it is possible to create a display with what is currently being made.

I refer to this photo (again) for scale :)

Not the best photo but shows the figures in use with the Ivory Phaeton from this century and also with the Band of the Lifeguard figures.

Hi Britfarmer
I have the Irish Statecoach.A very nice piece but when you go to put it together you beat the crap out of it.I would stay away from this.I a very big fan of all the ceremonial Britains.I wish they would do more bands.I would love to see Rifles bands or maybe State Trumpeters.Maybe some of the other pipe bands that are now gone.
Cheers
Dave

Here is a photo of one of Britains early 7000 sets. This one is no. 7225 -- notice the rubber guard's hats and rifles. Also, notice the difference in packaging from the later sets

I have the Irish State Coach as well. I totally agree with you, It is pretty much impossible to hook up the horses. They should have had bases. Britains really did drop they ball here on what otherwise would have been a fantastic set.

I see from your avatar you have a Basset Hound.....I do as well. Great dogs :)

Hi
They are a HAND FILL we also have a beagle.Would you repaint the horses?I just finish painting the 78th military band made from Britians moulds.I LOVE THE BANDS.
Cheers

Yo Troopers, thanks guys for all your info, I will have to digest this for a day or two before I decide to go with them or put them back up for sale. But as I have said before will DEFO not buy horses on plates (except and the only exception) Britains Hamleys Hussar set that Rob showed. Dont know why after 100 years of leading the field Britains have to start putting horses on plates. How Can the Light Brigade Charge if the horses are gluded to a plate lol. Troopers serious you have to scroll down to the Rare ebay auction section I wont get any sleep tonight. HEY Shannon as an Ex Trooper cant I live up to our reputation and SWEAR my head off, before I blow a gasket.
Bernard.

They are a handfull I agree :)

Do you need to repaint the horses? I gave up trying to assemble mine. I did damaged one of the lights on the coach :(
I was thinking of drilling larger holes in the horses and joining them together with a piece of metal rod and then using a fine chain to connect them together.

Yo Trooper Britfarmer, email me if you are interested in the Lifeguards & Horseguards.
Bernard.
