Sold an item on July 27th for about $208 on eBay.

I wait four-five days and then start sending messages asking if buyer wants to continue with the transaction. No response.

Finally a little over a week later, I threaten a non paying bidder dispute and buyer emails back. He tells me of some pretty hard family circumstances so I offer to end the transaction without opening an unpaid dispute. He accepts. Fine.

But, monitoring his eBay activity, he has not only paid for and received feedback for the sets he bought around the time he said he couldn't pay for but he has continued to purchase consistently and has spent quite a bit since our transaction.

So this leads me to three possible conclusions:

A. He has a problem over committing his money and then has to pick and choose what he can actually afford
B. He lied to me because he either found the set cheaper, decided he didn't want it after all or didn't want to buy it from me
C. He was telling the truth about his circumstances but was still buying with combination of the above two

I was hesitant to write this up but I did ask him about some of this with no response. So I thought about it and decided to post about this as I think it is a really crappy thing to do to somebody.

The eBay user here has a great feedback history but I have added him to my blocked bidder list. If anybody wishes to do same, I will provide the user ID.

Hi,
I would tend to think it was option B. In my personal opinion, if you have a circumstance that prohibits you from paying for an item you bought, it is best to just tell the seller. If you have an actual reason, I think being completely honest does more for a seller (as people tend to lie a lot on eBay), and he/she may cancel the purchase if asked kindly. I have only had to cancel one purchase (my mother bought two of the same non-duplicatable item), and the seller was very kind and helpful when I told him exactly what happened. I have since spent a lot of money with him, due to his prices and great service. So if you just message him almost exactly what you said here, and tell him that this is his chance to just tell you what really happened, or you will assume the worst and tell others.
