I was looking through Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine, Feb 2005, Issue 81 and saw that Britains made a vignette of US soldiers behind a sandbagged foxhole type fortification, based on a James Dietz painting called "Hold to the last round". I thought that KC could make something like this as an SL, instead of the usual vehicle or tank. It could be of various scenerios, containing three or more soldiers in a scenic piece that could easily blend and be part of a diorama. One would have to see the magazine to see and appeciate what I'm talking about and I don't know how to post pictures.

Some of the Strictly Limiteds are, in effect, diorama pieces like the Heydrich set and the recent bomb plot set.

You're correct Brad and including the Atlantic Wall, but if you saw what I'm talking about, you would see what got me excited. Can anyone out there post a picture?

Here is the painting by James Dietz. It was in the 2004 WB catalog

Remember, we have a link to Britains catalogues on our main website. This is from 2004.

It was done several years ago by Britains under a licensing agreement; the sets they did were representations of the troops in the painting dug into foxholes. The figures were set into the foxholes similar to the recent release by Honour Bound of two winter GI's in a foxhole.

That is one of my all time favorite works of art by the way, build a 8 foot by 4 foot diorama for a customer based on that painting and he loved it...........................

Here is the HB set George mentioned.

Thanks for posting pics Peter and Randy. You guys work fast! I'm aware of the Honour Bound set. I was thinking of something more expanded. Anyway it was just food for thought. When I saw the Britains set, I was like "wow" that's neat.

I think the problem with expanded diorama sets is the cost; the more things/figures you start to add, the higher the cost becomes, thereby potentially reducing your customer base.

Those Britains sets are beautiful. For people who like realistic battle scenes these are the kind of sets we like.George an 8x4 diorama! What size figures did you use?

Brad, I figure an SL set is in the $150 to $240 range. So to produce a small vignette: 3-4 figures = $96 to $128 + scenic piece, say $50 = $146 to $178. This would put us in SL range. The new pak40 wagon is $169. The key is a good imaginative product, which I'm sure KC can produce. If the product is good and under $200, I'm sure collectors will buy. Look at the recent Figarti products, all sell outs.

I think you're underestimating the cost. I believe it would probably be more in the $300 range.

Okay. Just a thought. I got excited when I saw the Britain set. I felt it was exactly what I and other collectors would be looking for. Maybe a shock & awe piece?

Nice idea and I'll bet K&C could do it better. I have both of the "Hold To The Last Round" sets. They are OK, but not as nice as the stuff Ken Osen is making for them now. The poses are "stiff" and some of the guys don't fit into the base like they are part of the scene. Some of the weapons are "clunky" too. Not bad, but not "Grade A" either.
