Welcome to the forum. The members on the forum are very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions or help the fellow collector.
Have fun on the forums.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It can be a bit daunting deciding what to collect. There are many options.

Matte or Gloss

Do you pick a theme and add to it from a variety of manufacturers?

Do you stick to one manufacturer?

Do you stick to one manufacturer and collect many different pieces from their different ranges? (This is what I do btw)

What ever you decide it is all great fun and I look forward to seeing your collection.

I can recommend the Britains Zulu wars, if you haven't seen them they are a must !! :D

Welcome to the board tallyho. I say, collect what you like. By that I mean whatever you are drawn to and pretty soon your collection will define itself. I believe that is the best way to have fun.

thanks for the welcome , it was much the same with my action man /gi joe collections , first it was ww2 , the adventure types , then modern military , so i think i will get what ever i take a shine to when i see it ,

great site by the way ,out of all i looked for on the net i was drawn to this one

i use this username as i was in the R A F , for 12 years on aircraft maintainance

Hi mate welcome, i have only just started to. At the mo i am just collecting WW2, you should check out the market garden series.

Welcome to the forum, it is always great to have another UK member join.

As to what to collect, well that is always a tough cookie, just buy them all!! :D Sorry that's not very helpfull I know but everyone has different tastes. Have you thought about painting your own castings? Very rewarding.

Welcome aboard Tallyho! :D Collect what strikes your fancy. If you buy what you like, you can't go wrong. If you collect WWII 1:6 scale figures, I would suggest King & Country, Figarti and Honour Bound, as they all have great WWII lines.

Welcome to the forum mate.

I'm pretty sure you'll have a good crack on here.

Re what to collect, you could do a lot worse than scour the different manufacturers here on Treefrogs and further. A word of warning though. I suspect there are an awful lot of collectors on here, who started off collecting a few bits and pieces based on what we collected as kids. That soon develops in to something much wider.

Still if you're giving up the weed (good on you - I can't manage it!), then replacing that with toy soldiers is a pretty good way to go.

Cheers
Simon

Hope you enjoy the forum

Welcome aboard.

Matt or gloss, metal or plastic, you paint or buy all done? Lots of fun decisions. I recommend that you go to the thread for shows, check London Show and go to London. Have a look and see what you like. Maybe London is too far. In that case maybe a smaller closer show. But the London Show, now that's something.

Worst case is you like it all

Have fun.

Welcome Tallyho, always nice to see a fellow ex RAF serviceman here. I echo Russell, try to get to the London show in June to see the widest possible variety of makers and figures and meet up with fellow Froggers.

Hi TH

Welcome to the mad-house:D If you are giving up the snouts and you were at least 20 a day man that's going to put over two grand in your pocket in the first year.
Man you can buy one hell of a lot a TS for that.

A Wild West theme will place you in the minority on here-but dont let that worry you as I'm a nut for anything Americana-good suggestion from some of the other guys to attend the London show-next one end of June-if you like a drink or two look up the Dirty Dozen UK Frogger Brigade in the bar of the host hotel 1230hrs. However, if you're a teetotaller definitely don't look in the bar ;) Instead just browse the dozens of dealers stalls it's an absolute smorgasboard of different eras and the best show in the UK. You will soon get hooked on whatever catches your eye and that potential 2K could be gone in seconds.

What do Cigarettes cost in the U.K? Here in Va. which is one of, if not the cheapest state to buy them, they are about $38 a carton now for Marlboro. By the pack they are about $4.50

About £5 per pack of 20 on average.

If by carton, you mean 200 cigs, they work out at approx £57 (Marlboro). You do the conversion - too depressing for me to do it. :(

A carton here is a box of 10 packs with 20 in a pack. Do they not sell them in cartons across the pond?

Yep, either in packs of 10, 20 and a few brands now do other sizes - 14 (?go figure?) or 40, but most are in 10 or 20 cig packs. You can buy them in cartons of 5 or 10 packs at supermarkets and the like. Doesn't make much difference to the cost though.
