This is a special, non-catalog set which is not based on an existing catalog set. It is an EGYPTIAN ARTILLERY GUN TEAM WITH ESCORT. I am not sure what year this represents, but would guess about 1900 based on the khaki uniforms. I have never seen this set before and wonder if any other manufacturer ever made one like it.

On post number 14, I included some photos of World War I Turkish Artillery Gun Teams both in the catalog set 1259 early war fezzes and the non-catalog set later war uniforms. Here are some close-ups of the gun team in the non-catalog later war uniforms. Although I don't have this version in my collection yet, I ordered it for another collector and it is a great looking set in person.

On post #2, I attached photos of Hiriart's set 1248 COLENSO ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY, BOER WAR. I noticed this version on eBay, listed by Patron, which has the figures wearing City Imperial Volunteers-like soft caps and includes four mounted escorts.

Included in the shipment I received today from Uruguay were three 1124 sets of ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY. One for Fred, one for John, and one for me.

At Saturday's get together at Bob Walker's house, where we distribute the ordered sets and look over the remainder, Bob decided to order the RHA set. I reminded him that he already had the original Britains version, but he said that he liked Hiriart's better. Since I personally don't have the Britains set, I'll defer to him on which is better.

Hi Mike,

Some great looking sets here! ^&cool

Jeff

Thank you, Jeff, I am glad you like them. I also received, but did not photograph, two Turkish Artillery Gun Teams sets for Fred and I. Although it isn't the same as opening up the sets I received in this order and photographing them, I'll attach a stock photo of the set we received so you can see what it looks like.

Here's a modern Britains RHA set Mike, to compare. - Produced by Briatains in the late 90's to commemorate their Centenary. One of the few painted sets I own, as my Grandfather was a Driver on that lead horse in WW1. (reminds me - gotta dust in there!) ^&grinjb

Hey, JB, that is a great looking set! The Britains RHA set that Bob has, is the vintage, pre-war version. I would say the 1990s version you have is superior to both. BTW, you have been holding out on us. I noticed a large number of factory painted, matte K&C figures in the background. Very nice.

Aha! well spotted - But Not Quite........ those are Delprado figures of the "Men at War" series ( true...made by K&C) but helped me back into the hobby, when I was still wondering whether I should or not.

I decided (eventually), I should be a collector - but as a painter, and not JUST a collector. I liked collecting them - but this still left me somewhat dissatisfied inside. A bit like "Well. I have bought and collected these now - is that all there is???).

Painting them, I found, made me feel more .............. "I helped make these - so now they're mine!".

Hope that makes some kind of sense?^&grin

Your correct; I figured that they were Del Prado's made by K&C since they all seemed to be singles rather than sets, but I was inarticulate in my comments. It does make sense. Speaking of K&C, I am looking forward to seeing what Gordon has created in the way of one-of-a-kind dioramas at the West Coaster this weekend. They are always very impressive and usually already sold by the time I see them.

When I recently placed my 2012 order with Hiriart, it included non-catalog sets of mounted escorts to go with set 1124 THE ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY. I ordered four of these escort sets for Bob, Fred, John, and me. Each will have an officer, a bugler, and two men. When they arrive, I'll post a photo.

Forum member John just sent me two photos of his Hiriart set 1124 Royal Horse Artillery. It has two figures seated on the limber and has six mounted escorts: An officer, a bugler, and four men. Very impressive! Thanks for sharing your photos, John.
