Several years ago, I asked Hiriart to make me a special non-catalog set of the WORLD WAR I GERMAN ALPEN KORPS. As a young officer, Erwin Rommel served in this unit on the Italian Front. The Rommel figure in the photograph is not part of this set, but rather is part of another special non-catalog set I had made for me of the WORLD WAR II DEUTSCHES AFRIKA KORPS.

Cool, Mike. I always enjoy seeing your Hiriart sets. I haven't noticed many, if any, combat poses. Does Hiriart do any combat poses, or just marching sets?

Dave

Hi Dave,

I am glad you have enjoyed seeing the Hiriart sets I have posted. You are right, Hiriart, generally speaking, makes classic marching sets. However, there are several "in action" sets in their catalog:

1266 THE 24TH FOOT "HOLDING THE LINE"

1267 WORLD WAR I SCHUTZTRUPPE SUD WEST AFRIKA

1268 U.S. MARINE CORPS LANDING PARTY, 1900

1269 COLONIAL BERSAGLIERI, ABYSSINIA, 1896

In addition, there are Japanese Infantry running at port arms, Russian Infantry advancing, and a few others, plus a couple of mounted sets that are also in action.

Sharp looking sets, Mike. That US Marine set really pops. -- Al

Thanks Al. I really like it, too; I have it in my collection. It kind of goes with "The Wind and the Lion" or Boxer Rebellion time frame. Next year, I am ordering the Italian Bersaglieri set again for me. I had ordered it before, but Bob Walker saw it and liked it so he is now the proud owner.

Mike, I always enjoy your threads, Hiriart make some interesting figures. ^&cool

Lovely sets Mike, I agree with Al, that USMC set is particularly nice :salute::

Cheers

Martyn:)

Thanks Jeff, I am doing my part to support the glossy toy soldier side of the Forum against the much large matte side of the house. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my pending Hiriart order which will have 37 special, non-catalog sets from seven different units, including World War I in Africa British, Belgians, and Portuguese; World War II Eastern Front Hungarians and Slovaks; and 19th Century mounted Italian Carabinieri. These should all prove to be unusual and interesting figures that one doesn't see too often elsewhere.

Thank you Martyn. It is a neat set. At some future point in time, I may order special, non-catalog sets of the U.S. Navy landing party and Moroccans as seen in the "Wind and the Lion" to go with the marines.

Thank you Mike, that is the film I was thinking of when I saw the set this afternoon but the name had escaped me {bravo}}

Cheers

That's a really neat idea, Mike. It would be a unique collection of figures. Just remember one thing, do not laugh at the Risuli.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

What a great movie, especially with Sean C. as the Risouli. Hiriart already has appropriate Germans in set 1154 DEUTSCHES INFANTERIE (the catalog set doesn't normally come with the flag) and in a set of non-catalog Dragoons.

A Forum member has ordered the WWI GERMAN ALPEN KORPS set pictured in the first post. He also ordered sets 1156 WWI Chasseurs Alpins and 1255 WWI Austrians with skis plus set 1156 in dark trousers rather than white. If any other Forum members or guests would also like to order any of these sets, please contact me directly at matara42@roadrunner.com. Non-catalog sets are priced the same as catalog sets; 2011 pricing was $125 a for a set of nine figures which is a bargain in today's world, don't ya think?
