Thought I would ask if any Treefroggers was making any trips to historical and/or military places or sites this year.

I am lucky as at the end of May I will be at Hadrian's Wall for a few day and visiting Hardknott Fort in the Lake District on the way.

Following that for the first week in July [to miss the crowds for the 25th anniversary] I will in Normandy for 4 days and this year I will looking to follow the route of Operation Totalise, spend sometime in Carentan, Canadian attack on Carpiquet airfield and a couple of museums I like, plus a cycle along the beach front of Gold Sword and Juno.

I visited Ft. Necessity and Jumonville Glen recently. The latter always seems to be closed when I've gone and I feel like a criminal having to walk around the barrier. Kind of a spooky place to visit alone. Like something out of Blair Witch with the rock formations.

My favorite historical place to visit is Gettysburg. I visit with my son, and sometimes friends, we always hire one of the professional battlefield guides to take us on a two-hour battlefield tour (they hop in your car and drive you around the battlefield, giving you more information than you imagine possible), and then enjoy all the local antique, militaria and toy soldier shops. At least one meal at the Dobbin House Tavern, in business since 1776, is a must. Its a long drive, and always messes up my back, but its worth it once a year.

I am hitting a military museum in Cairns Queensland Australia in August for an 'open hatch day' which means a ride on an exhibit notably a tank. Understand there are dozens of WW11 vehicles with many being German. Will take some photos to share here. Robin.
