During the American Civil War a letter from a loved one or a familiar tune played on a harmonica by a soldier far from home brought memories of the people and places left behind.

Watercolor by a Special Artist for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper.

The watercolor was later adapted by Frank Leslie's staff for use as a wood block engraving for publication in the next issue of the newspaper.

Nice. From the setting and angle viewed the figure looks like a camp laundress.

Another great looking scene Randy. It's nice to see some of these great older figures featured in your photos. I particularly like the guy sprawled out with the letter. Very nice work as usual. :smile2:
