I am not being sarcastic or trying to 'clickbait', but are Britains actually still releasing stuff?
Someone asked me the other day and i had no idea? They used to collect and remember them as a kid.

I looked on the site and the only things i collect are Saxons/Viking and WW2 and they did not look great, quite bland when compared with JJD, K & C and Thomas G, around the same price as well.

I used to collect the old History of the British Army individual figures, but they eventually just go too expensive for what they were and noticed there are far fewer than them for sale.

They've released a fairly large number of figures each month for about the past 5 or 6 months; Saxons/Vikings, Napoleonics, AWI, French & Indian, ACW, dirty blue shirts, Zulu War and WWII.

K & C and TGM do not make Saxons/Vikings, not sure why you are comparing what W. Britain has released from that era vs what those companies have as again, neither of them produce Saxons/Vikings, plus K & C and TGM go quite well together, W. Britain goes better scale wise with First Legion and War Park.

I can't address your comment about someone asking you who used to collect them as a kid; collect what as a kid? Britains Deetail, Swoppets, glossies?

You need to be more specific as to what this person collects and when.

Thanks for the reply,

A neighbour came in for a cup of tea and saw my K & C, TGM and JJD, he asked whether I had any W Britains and if they were still going, he is in his late 70s and do not know what he collected, but he did say he had some ceremonial stuff.

I miss the Christmas special releases, there were a few from about 2008 onward, such as Under the Mistletoe and the Little Drummer Boy. They are really good and people always comment on them when they are on display in my home around the Christmas holidays. K & C Christmas sets have the same affect, i put up a small display in a friends shop window a couple of weeks before Christmas and they always attract a few people. There is a sign that says they are for display only and not for sale, but we still get 15 to 20 peoples asking if they are for sale?

I also have all the ceremonial band sets, the ones that come in the oblong boxes, do not what the range was, but they stopped a few years ago, the RM Band is my favourite.

I know only JJD make Viking/Saxons, but I did also mention WW2 and thought these were a bit behind the curve when compared, know they would not fit with other ranges, but they are the same price. A fellow collector does mix WB and TGM, plus the Conte Zulus and says they go well together. In 2021 I sold the 3 William Britains Zulu Modelzone barricade specials, sets number were around 29 etc so quite old, sold through ebay for a stupidly high amount of money.

The last WB I bought was at the final show before lockdown in 2020, I picked up a couple of the History of British Army Gloss figures, Collector Club.

Could not figure [no pun intended] out from the site what was new and think it would be good if we could have a thread started for WB new releases, same as K & C, JJD and TGM. I can only see from previous threads there was on about the US Civil War releases.

Thanks again.

I do try to post when new releases arrive, but totally admit I miss posting those sometimes!
Our direct Website is up to date, Recent Releases for what has arrived/been restocked in the last 40 days and Upcoming Releases when I stumble upon new figures on their Website.

As to the quality of the Britains Northmen and WWII figures, they are not bland at all and the detail/scaling is excellent. Unlike some other companies, Britains and First Legion tend to put historical accuracy over more theatrical and dramatic considerations. My intension is not to denigrate other manufacturers, but Britains Northmen are simple for a reason. If that isn't your cup of tea, that's fine, but maybe think about why you have that preference and why they make their figures the way they do.

I’m relatively new to the hobby and can only speak to the matte Britains WWII figures I’ve purchased but I don’t find them bland at all. In fact, I find them somewhat more detailed and realistic than those produced by other manufacturers. Just ny 2 cents.

In my opinion, Britains currently does some of the best faces in a WWII range.

...he is in his late 70s and do not know what he collected, but he did say he had some ceremonial stuff...

Given his age, he could very well have played with the original Britains hollowcast toy soldiers when he was a boy. He might collect them today.

Prost!

Great photo. I agree with you about the sculpting.
The "Steiner" figure WB produced is one of my favorite WWII figures.

The camo patterns on the W. Britain WWII Germans is spot on, tremendous really, extremely well researched and presented, they do a first rate job on camo for sure.

The WB Camo, equipment, weapons are very well researched and accurate.
My apologies ahead of time for the photo quality, but the Camo is excellent as George said.

I have to agree with the previous posts on the quality of the Britains WWII Germans… Here’s some closeup pics from some of my setups using them😎

Nice set up, the Britains figures have become really very good, I have them almost all.
The 2nd from the right still looks like Ernest Laverdure from the comic series.

I mix my Britains Vikings/Saxons in with the JJ figures. JJ is more detailed but the two work pretty well in my opinion, certainly to make a bigger battle scene. I was hoping for more Britains in this range but it trailed off a couple of years ago.
