Well,
here is one that has me stumped. I have no idea where I got this only that I was digging through boxes and found it. Does anyone know or can id which Honour Bound Tank this is? It was in a Panther box, but I cannot find which model it is.

Thanks and let me know what you know!
Tom

Tom,

Does not match any stock photos in our database - I have asked the experts!! Will keep you posted on what they say :)

Julie

I had a few in my time and can't recall the symbols next to the German cross. Maybe it's a custom. Why don't you ask Anna? She will surely know.

The turret emblem appears to be, or at least resembles, the insignia of the 8th SS Cavalry Division, Florian Geyer. I have owned a few of the HB Panthers and none of them had any such markings or numerals that were dark like this one has. -- Al

Florian Geyer. the horse seems to be the incorrect way for this division. I think it should face the other way from memory. Did they use Panthers? I can only recall the Panzerjager units. they were active against the Partisans

Looks a modified version as there are no crosses at front hull where every HB Panther had them. I also believe they did not have crosses on the turrets when released only numbers

Ok, preliminary info is that it was a custom one off made and I am awaiting word from Ana on the details. Kudos to Julie!

As an aside, I acquired it and was not the original purchaser, it didn't originally come with figures.

Don't know if the 8th SS ever had Panthers. As a non-panzer division they did have assault guns. Late in the war, it isn't impossible that they might have had a tank battalion assigned to them. Anyone know for sure? -- Al

I would like to share my Panther collection by Honor Bound. These were the first 3 armor releases by Honor Bound in 2005/2006. They were the first to produce realistic tracks and bogey wheels not "glued to mud." The company later produced a captured Panther in Russian markings, damaged Panther, and a winter Panther. A Berge Panther in 3 color scheme were also produced.

From the looks of the picture you have provided, the former owner may have modified the original markings as evidenced the the smudge & discoloration on the number area.

Hope this helps

Thanks. Actually Ana at honour bound believes this was a custom one off and she is looking in her records for me. She thinks they made it as a special order.

I doubt it was a special order. It probably was a not very well done partial repaint (turret only in darker paint). The model was originally 421 Resupplying the Panther. The zimmerit has been scraped off to make a flat space for the new insignia and the spare wheels from the rear of the turret have been ripped off leaving a bare spot with no zimmerit. No way Anna did this as a special order.

The emblem of the 8th SS was

baymax is correct - he horse head looks to the left - not to the right.

I don't think they ever had any Panthers. The only armour I know of is that the 8th SS had a Panzerjager tank hunting battalion of Marder III which was replaced by towed artillery when the 8th SS went to anti-partisan operations. The 8th SS also had a Stug III Battalion assigned to it late 1943 and by summer 1944 this was absorbed by the Panzerjager Battalion. Given the unit's history of duties and record of AFVs I doubt any Panthers, or in fact any tanks would ever have been assigned to it.

Terry I am only going by what she said to Julie. She saw the photos and told Julie that who told me. Again I bought this from a large high end collection.

Before we all get definitive here, I will await confirmation from the manufacturer who made it

I have only seen two special commissions from Honour bound but, this is surely not something that would have come from their stable. I struggle to find anything good to say about what has been done to think it could come from a professional manufacturer that was noted for quality.

I have not been able to find anything about deploying Panthers so, that alone would be wrong but, the markings and unit emblem was also not deployed in such a large manner.

Thanks for your expert opinion, it means a lot. Again I will repeat, Ana is honour bound and is the manufacturer who responded and this was her initial thoughts. If all of you on here can draw such detailed reviews from Lo res pictures in bad lighting, I am thoroughly impressed. If she is right in that they did produce it, feel free to contact her with your critiques. I personally don't care as again I bought a collection of hi end pieces a number of years ago and this was part of it.

Why this board generates such authoritative rhetoric in every thread is beyond me. As another aside, manufacturers do a lot of special commissions that are not common knowledge. So as to how many honour bound has done, only Ana would know that, I don't and have no interest to speculate.

I think I need to buy you a drink or two at Valley Forge Tom ^&grin

Seriously to put up with some of the posts. GOOD LORD. All I did was locate an item as I was cleaning out from a collection bought long ago and didn't know what it was other than it was an HB Panther. SO, posted a pic, get an initial reply from the person who made it, then continue to get expert advice with a personal bent to it. Go figure I would need a drink. Seriously there are some times where I would rather get arthritis from lack of keyboard activity than post here.

Absolutely looks great!!! said that in my first post, what will you do with this beauty Tom?? ebay, or is it a keeper??...Sammy
