I'm confused, these are some of the best poses and sets I own in 1/30th scale.

So why are they still available? Heck at today's prices, they're practically a steal.

Like beauty; it's in the eye of the beholder.

To bad too, because some people think HB figures are too small and others think KC figures are too wide.

This is another example of "first to market" advantage KC has in the WWII. They were first to redefine WWII figurine market in both 1/30 scale, sculpting and coloring and therefore have created the standard in the minds of the collector for all other comers to be judged. Great job Andy!

Sure, FL has been successful but they had to "flanked' the industry and redefine it in 2 ways; Russian quality for less in 1/32 scale. FL has successfully segmented the WWII market and avoid going "frontal" against KC initially.

Therefore, HB, Figarti, CSC and Thomas Gunn will always be compared to the "first to market" advantage KC has established and continues to earn with 1/30 scale WWII market. Also, many collectors have so much invested in KC (and prices continue to climb) there's less budget available to spend on anything else compared to the past,.IMO.

IMO, the only thing small about HB is the width and not the height. I own maybe 1,000 KC figures and all but the last 2 or 3 HB sets produced. I see them everyday in one of 13 dioramas set up in 3 rooms of my home.

However, I respect your choice on how you spend your hard earned money.

Carlos, I think they are still available because HB is basically out of the business for TS figures and WWII AFV's...I have some of these HB winter figures and I agree with you, I think they are very well done....I have the HB Winter Panther so they go very well with that tank....I think they would move well at $99.

I just picked up HB 50 "Panzer Crew on the Run".

It is bittersweet though. With every HB purchase I make I am reminded that there will not be any new sets from them. I loved their stuff the minute I saw it at Sierra and to this day they remain one of my favorite all time manufacturers.

I agree. Question: How does your HB figures compare size wise or match up with your KC and your other 1/30 scale figures?

Carlos:

First I hope all is well, long time no see/hear!

Second, I have never really set them up with K&C, Figarti or any other figures from different manufacturers. I generally have them as stand alones or small vignettes. Although I have read that others are concerned with the size, for me it is not so much a scale issue as it is a paint style-one.

Hope that helps.

Best,
Jason

Hi all, any members here have this HB set?? and if so what do you think of it?? to me it's a great piece but afraid to pull the trigger for 180.00 and never seen it, also was wondering how hard it would be to remove the soldiers from the snow mound??...Sammy

HB figures are noticeabley smaller than KC figures, both in bulk and height. Same with TGM figures, which are same size as KC. -- Al

I have this set. I bought it from Gary from Missouri. I liked it so much, I was going to buy the GI foxhole set, but didn't. The guys in the foxhole are the best figures. The kneeling guy is more generic. One of the guys looks to have a M1 carbine, which barrel is way too long. Scalewise, they would fit okay with KC & TGM. KC's prone figures tend to be on the small side anyway. Sammy, too bad you didn't consider buying this earlier. They were $125 for years. I think I bought mine for $75. Gary is a good guy.

I picked up the retired HB standing rocket launcher set yesterday and am beyond excited how good he looks, a tad bigger then my FL troops, but I placed him in a good location where the size isn't off but yet shows off the quality of this set!! thanks Julie!! :)...Sammy

They look really good Sammy! Great purchase!

I don't have all of them as I cheery picked the lot and got 3 of the winter Germans and the U.S. medic set and got to say I'm bummed that HB have retired from the matt finished soldiers :(:( they really do a solid job with these guys, not sure what Chicago show holds but if I spy more of these sets I certainly would like to add a few more to my collection...Sammy

How well do they fit with your FL or Britains troops? I am wondering if they will look good next to KronPrinz and Britains which seem to be a tad bit larger/bulkier than FL.

I'll post some pics by Wednesday, so far I only have 1 of the new Britain WWII sets, and I certainly think it goes very well with my First Legion troops, as far as the HB winter sets they do tend to be a tad to big for First Legion, not by much and I can disguise them in dioramas so the size variation isn't that noticable, but I really like the over all weathering/painting of the HB soldiers that I have...Sammy

Sorry for the lonnnnnnng delay Bradley, Once I put the troops side by side I was like no way the HB sets are going to work with my First Legion troops way to big, but I absolutely love the detail/painting of the HB sets, so as suggested by a few members I'm using them as back ground fill in sets where the size is not as noticeable but yet can still see the detail in the soldier itself...Sammy
