Being new to collecting, the first pieces I “had to have” were vehicles like the Summer Panther, Panzer Meyer Command Vehicle and King Tiger. Now, I need to compliment them with more figures, but there doesn’t seem to be much of a selection available of recent Western Front combat figures sets in action. I like WS063-WS065, but it’s more Eastern Front/Berlin themed. WS067-WS077 are all vehicles with the exception of Summer Commanders (not foot-soldiers). WS079-WS086 are winter. WS087-WS092 are vehicles. Beyond that the Marching Officer and Marching soldier are okay, but I’d prefer a set of combat figures in action. WS099 are not foot soldiers in action. It seems like there were a lot more combat figures sets in the past, but they don’t have the quality of the new releases. I’d like to see some newer sets like WS058 New Fighting Patrol, WS060 Tank Ambush, WS051 MG42 Gun Group, WS050 Foot Patrol, WS049 Advance to Ambush, WS048 Advance to Attack, WS040 Marching Infantry.

I'm sure there will be more sets like you want in the future......:)

Well, WS49-51 have been retired- get on those quick. I drug my feet a bit and recently ordered WS50. From what I hear, they are moving a bit.

Sets like WS 38 and such are still out there- I believe the Treefrog Site here is still selling them. Those hold some good action poses.

Brad, I haven't noted that WS50 and WS51 have been retired, or do you know something we don't?

I'm wondering about that now?.I havn't got WS50 'The Patrol' yet, better check this out and if its true get my order in.

I stand somewhere between corrected and somewhere between correct :D This was the one thing I wanted to avoid like the plague- giving information that may be open to interpretation. I went and reviewed the K&C website and none of the sets I mentioned WS48-51 are displayed as "Being Retired" like say the WS52 prime mover is.

However, I was basing my conclusion on the fact that some toy soldier websites do list them as being retired. So, I drew my conclusion from that.

Sorry for the false info- hope I didn't cause anyone any panic. Just drew my own conclusions and disseminated them.

Oz,

You're right. Only 49 is retired. I've also seen people saying that 38, 39 and 40 are retired or close to being retired. However, they are not retired. They would seem to be candidates but they have not been retired.

If 49, 50 and 51 do get retired, then Kurts point is an excellent one.

If that were to be the case, there would be virtually no German infantry sets for a Normandy/Arnhem type display available unless you wanted to play the Ebay/once something gets retired the price goes through the roof game to hunt those sets down.

There are plenty of vehicles available, and plenty of Fall/Winter Germans between the Bulge sets, the Berlin sets and the winter WS sets. There are also several early war sets with jack boots for 1939 to 1942 displays.

I'd love to see some simple, basic Heer infantry in a mix of M43 caps and non camo cover helmets, ankle boots and non camo jackets for Normandy and Arnhem......................

Just to be clear: WS 49 has been retired. Not asked but also to be noted is that there will be no German sets in this year's Arnhem releases. I can't speak for the future after 2007 but this is what Andy has said.

Actually Brad, there are some new German releases in the Arnhem range, but I am 100% sworn to secrecy as to what they are, you will find out in September..............

That's good to hear. I guess Andy invoked executive privilege!

Then it should be no big deal if he retires some of these older sets, which are probably due to be retired anyway.

Exactly what I'm hoping for.:)
