And Jack said 'Let there be Hougoumont' for the college museum dio this year, so I was challenged to see if I could come up with something. After some research I decided to have a go, I started with some foam board, balsa and paddlepop sticks. Now I modified it a bit for ease of construction hence the 'My way' bit and went with the centre building (the gardeners cottage as Bob tells me) first being the hardest to build, if I couldn't do this one then the rest would be pointless. Here I post some pics of the build.

The walls....... foam board, balsa and paddlepop sticks.

Walls up, now the brickwork. A lot of casting!

Brickwork done....

Roof done....

Undercoated......

Much like Wayne himself, you really have to experience the building in person to get a real sense of it!

All done, my thanks go to Robin (Villagehorse) for kindly suppling the measurements of his model which were a great help.

Now for the two flanking cow sheds....

Wayne...

that's beautiful....

are those bricks from #250?

if so...you are a very patient man...

how many casts did you have to make to construct that?

Correct Mike, I didn't count the casts but a lot mate! and as you know the moulds are small! but I have gone through 1 x 22.5kg bag and 2 x 5kg tubs of Hydrostone and 1 x 5kg tub of Hydrocal since I got the moulds! Not all of course on this project but a goodly proportion of that has gone into it and then some will go into the two cow sheds next. Only thing is I can't get any more Hydrostone until the new year as the US maker has had some sort of hold up in production and I may have to fall back on Plaster of Paris until then, not the best but there you go.
Wayne..

Cobber i missed this thread but what a brilliant effort well done mate hopefully i will see it in person next year.

Wow Wayne, you nailed it. This has come up so well, you must be pleased. Workmanship is impressive.:salute::, Robin.

Give yourself a very large pat on the back Wayne - a superb example of first class modelling! {bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

Jeff :salute::

Brilliant work, Wayne,

Maybe you need to get a builder's licence and become a Union member, going on your fine technique in forming this building :)

Will this be used in the forthcoming diorama in Brisbane for the centenary of Waterloo ???

If the other 3 that I saw in the college are anything to go on, this will be outstanding.

Well Done,

John

Wayne...the scale of those bricks looks pretty darn close for 54-60mm structures...great looking project...

but...you gotta be patient and wait on your Hydrostone...

you might try Hydrocal if it's available...but I promise you...the Plaster of Paris will crumble...it's just not hard enough...the edges will break off every time you bump into something...

keep up the great work!!!

Wayne,
That is spectacular in every way; superb job to say the least.

You've got about 5 months to get the rest of Hougomont finished.............:wink2:

Won't be long before Sandor contacts you wanting to buy it..............^&grin

Outstanding work :salute:: ! I am truly jealous because that is going to look awesome in a diorama. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Brendan

Just to offer you some encouragement - this will indeed be part of the display ... but it will be on the fourth biggest table! Book your airfare early!

But the good news is that New Year is not far off. The pictures are great but, in the flesh, this is absolutely awesome. Nothing wrong with the paint job either, Wayne. Superb job :salute:: See you on Sunday.
