How About a "Collections" Forum? (1 Viewer)

I was wondering why we don't have a Forum specifically for Collections. Dioramas isn't exactly the right place for them, but neither is General Toy Soldier Discussion. I realize there is a limit as to how many Forums we can accomodate on the homepage, but if that is an issue, maybe we could combine Dioramas and Diodramas into a single Forum, for example, and put Collections at the bottom of the homepage. I have personally posted eight or nine extensive collections on Treefrog including those of Bob Walker, Ed Ruby, Neal Crowley, Bob Philips, Jim Barata, and my own. There have been several others who have also posted other collections on Treefrog. I believe that a consolidated Collections Forum would have more threads, posts, and views than some of the other existing Forums on the homepage; in some cases, a lot more. I would be interested in hearing any opinions on this matter.

Thanks.

Mike

I think it would be great. We have several collections on the forum besides the ones you have posted. GICOP has been sharing his collection for some time as has WT Allison. I, for one, enjoy seeing these.

great idea. Can't see why we need diodrama's and a dio thread as well as having to have a K&C dio thread surely one is more than enough??

Would like to see a collection thread for sure.

I would also like to see the introduction of a conversions and repaint thread area where the talented people on here can have their own section to showcase what is being done

Just a thought

Dio sections are for short little dios that are not continuing in nature. Diodramas are continuing in nature like the ones UK Reb and the Lieutenant posts. As for a K & C Dio thread, I believe it's because some just frequent K & C and not other sections.

I don't really see a need for a Collections section as the rest of the Forum seems to handle that well enough. I can't say I'm opposed to it; I just don't see the necessity.

I mentioned Diodramas as a possible space for Collections, not because I had anything particularly against it, but as a practical matter. Diodramas has only 34 threads compared to Dioramas 1256 threads, so 97.4% of the threads are in Dioramas and 2.6% in Diodramas.

I think a collections section is a great idea, they should be moved from the diorama section and given their own section on the forum.

Often times a great diorama moves quickly down the ranks and off the front page as post after post updating a collection comes in, pushing a particular diorama off the first page, never to be seen again.

I'm for it.

The diorama section no longer has any collection threads.

The diorama section isn't the right place for collections. That section is for continuing stories.

Hmmmm? The statement that the diorama section no longer has any collection threads is patently false. If you check, you will find six threads under dioramas that I started which show collections of various collectors I know.

In your opinion, the diorama section isn't the right place for collections, but the clear meaning of standard English says otherwise: "This is the place to show everyone your great displays and dioramas...." I would suggest to you that I posted hundreds of photos of my collection DISPLAYED in curios or on diorama tables. You state "That section is for continuing stories." Really? Where does it say that?

I'm not going to get into an argument with you as you seem to be itching for a fight.

If the diorama section contains threads that contain photos of other collections that you posted, then I stand corrected. However, would you then please point out to Pete and the Moderators so they can determine if it should be moved.

As far as the diodrama section, I suggest you look at the introduction which says that this is the place for "serial stories." As the moderator who helped interpret and put that section into practice, I think I know a little of what I'm talking about.

In the end, yes, it's my opinion, which is no less nor more valid than yours.

In the end, no matter what we may think, Shannon, Pete and the other moderators will decide what is the wisest course for the Forum and whatever they decide I'm sure it will be a good decision.

By the way, I'm enjoying your postings of your Trophy Civil War sets. Some very nice sets. Your photos bring out the gloss quality nicely, something I'm not as good at.

No, I am not itching for a fight. The last time I got into a fight was fifty years ago in Basic Training at Fort Ord when I decked a guy (much bigger than me) with a left cross to the chin for cutting in front of me in the chow line. I was just pointing out some misstatements of fact you made. BTW, you said diorama and not diodrama when you were talking about serial stories. I will defer to you on diodramas since I never even heard of the term before I saw it on Treefrog for the first time.

Thank you for your opinion, but I am curious where you think collections should be posted; you didn't say. To date, there are nine "votes" for a Collections Forum and one against.

Thanks, I am glad you like them. I have determined that closing our plantation shutters and using the camera's flash gives the best results. Natural sunlight seems to fool the camera and gives a washed out looking result.

Hope you're not going to deck me the next time we meet :smile2:{eek3}

I think where people presently post collections is adequate. For example, Martyn posts his in the Trophy section as does Tommy, although he has posted a lot in his albums. I've posted my K & C in the K & C section and some of my Trophy ACW in the Trophy section.

As I said, although I don't think a separate section is necessary, I'm not opposed to it.

You're probably right about the sunlight. I have tried to avoid a flash because someone told me that you get better results without it but your and Martyn's photos really bring out the gloss.

I like the idea of a Collections section and based on names mentioned in this thread could include the following :
Bob Walker, Ed Ruby, Neal Crowley, Bob Philips, Jim Barata, UCLA, GICOP, and WT Allison.

Others I recall who have had threads showing their collections are Northgatewoods, TomNT, Wadepat, Louis and Lawrence. Villagehorses thread might also count as pretty much shows all his collection over time. Artillery Crazy is another I can think of.

It might encourage others to post their collections.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Brett

Great idea Mike, a collections section would be good.

I thought the K&C thread for dio's was down to the inundation of scenes in the main section and complaints regarding that?? I cannot see how its hard for people to look for dioramas in one section be they one offs or, a continuation of a story!!!!!!

Surely, people can manage to write or remember a page number where a dio they like may be can't be that hard to navigate away from the K&C thread??? I have seen brand loyalty on here but, thread loyalty that's a new one!LOL.

Anyway, I hope a collection thread is started its as valid a thread as 1/72nd and merging threads seems a good idea to make room as I enjoy looking at some of the stunning collections that people have amassed

The problem with posting one's collection under a particular section such as Trophy or K&C is that not all collections lend themselves to that sort or dicing and slicing. My collection and all of the others that I have posted on Treefrog are made up of many different manufacturers.

That's a good point. Maybe you could ask Pete to do a poll as he did for the 1/72 collectors to gauge interest.

Hopefully, enough positive comments here will convince them without having to conduct a poll. Besides, it is such a no brainer---how can a toy soldier forum not have a section for collections?
