Is it me - or did everyone this year greatly expanded their King and Country AK Collection.

What a minute what I am I talking about ??? :eek::eek::eek:

I didnt even have a single WWII Soldier in my collection before joining Treefrog this year !! :p

Ron, same here, only just started collecting K&C WWII this year - and AK is by far my biggest assortment of armour, next Waffen SS, both favorites since childhood. All the chatter on this forum has me anticipating an AK 88 release in 2008... Off topic: I will be moving back to Washington DC area in Feb (currently overseas with the DOS in Africa), is there any kind of K&C "chapter" or group of minature collectors that get together? thanks, mike

Mike

When you get back to DC - we will start our own K&C Club :D

I know there is a Toy Soldier group called NCMSS - that hold a Toy Soldier Show in VA. But, we should start are own group and meet a Shelly's Backroom (DC's only Cigar Bar) - Cigars and Toy Soldiers - Thats the Ticket! :D

I started collecting K&C in 1999, and the AK is by far my favorite. The AK sets have been the most addictive for me; I never felt the need to have a whole collection so much as with this line. The only problem is that the sets are coming out at such a fast pace that I virtually abandoned the other lines. I am still trying to catch up with all the great motorcycles that came out. And I with the release of the Gebirsjaegers and the half track snow vehicle, I'm hoping that thhe next AK's and Eighth Army do not come out until the Spring. I am already planning how to hang the Storch over my North African diorama.

Gil,

I hear you man. The North African campaign has always been my favorite too. In addition to all of the K&C figures, vehicles and aircraft on the subject, I also have six K&C made desert dioramas. The whole rear portion of the museum is focused on North Africa. You ought to drop me a PM and come by one day (you are in Queens, I am a few exits away on the LIE in Nassau).

Thanks for the invitation Louis, I will have some free time in January, s I'll definitely contact you.

The AK Collection is certainly starting to narrow my focus on WWII - I cant keep up with the other stuff - but, I really do love the desert action.

The whole desert war has been a dilemma for me:

I've shied away from AK- guess it's just a question of cost and space for me. I still just feel like the "Desert" campaign offerings are so one sided German that it just doesn't make for a balanced collection. To me, I am looking at the following equation here:

Panzer 2+ Panzer 3+ Panzer 4+ Tiger+ 10.5 CM Field Gun+ possible 88 in 08=

British Vickers :(:(

It's almost like an extension of the LAH series to me.

I have the AK Rommel and I bought EA21 this year but that is about it. Like the LRDG Chevies but at the price and size I just passed- why open up yet another front??

Now, on the flip side, I have bought the Russians and feel TRAITOROUS to our English allies for getting into the Eastern Front!! However, I love the Market Garden figs and plan on buying them for my WW2 collection.

Ultimately though, I just cannot see me doing another front- I have DDay, Bulge, Iwo and Eastern Front. I plan on grabbing the MG figs and placing them in my DDay assault as 6 Paras (?)

I am one of those unfortunate folks who've loss resistance in collecting AK because of the Tiger tank. After I've purchased the tiger I also got the Opel Blitz... Then I got sucked in further and bidded for Rommel's Grief from Ebay, 2-3 times the retail price.... then the Panzer III... next would be the panzer IV and SdKfz 222

Did the same happen to anyone out there (started to collect AK after the Desert Tiger?)

Also, does anyone notice that the earlier AK figures are on a much larger scale than the latest release?

Although I have more interest in the Battle of the Bulge, my tiny 3 piece AK collection looks better than my larger BBA collection. I have a small convoy-the motorcycle combo, the new Tiger followed by the Opel Truck. I love it.

I had decided to myself not to ever collect any Eighth Army stuff, but despite my resistance, got sucked into buying the LRDG Chevy. What a beautiful model.

I have all the AK collection except for the very early stuff, the copies of the early WS series. It really wouldn't look good with what I have. The same goes for the EA collection. I have all of that. It's my favorite K & C ranges.

Rommel

I'd like to get the AK Rommel figure but it looks pretty dated quality-wise. Does anyone recommend the new Collector's Showcase over the older K&C version? Actually, I wish Andy would just come out with a new version.

Personally, I think that the WS36 Rommell figure is quite good, and displays well with current production figures.

My collection is vast, I have all of two figures, both Alamo defenders. Although I may buy the Bishop next time I see him, just because I like him.

To my knowledge, K & C has only made three Rommel figures, WS 22, WS 34 (the AK version) and the Greif version. Of course, if you want to see what he looks like after he had been interred for awhile, you can buy the CS version:D

Afrika Korp is a fantastic area to collect. I've nabbed most of the KC stuff as of late and added the Collectors Showcase armor and 88mm gun. I find the K&C figures to be superior in this range, but the armor to be lacking ( only realized this after buying the CS MKI ). I guess hand sculpting armor is pretty hard for folks. Its tough to collect everything I agree. Marketgarden up next for me!

Cheers!

My AK collection is alot like Brad's - all the new stuff - the exception is the Old AK 11 (paras - standing patrol) - still would like to get my hands on the AK 13 (paras - MG42 machine gun). In the new AK 20 Demag is on the "Must Get List" If anyone has any extras for sale or trade??......:D

The old K&C AK 11 go well with the new ones I think. There is a small size issue anything before AK 11 and would be noticable in a collection IMHO.

This desert stuff is really great - I wish Andy would produce that German PzKpfw IV - Ausf. E Tank - he had in one of his promo materials - that looked wonderful. I think the two big deals in the series is the AK 24 with two extra figures and I believe came out for $89.00 at the time and the recent AK 30 - Panzer II Tank Set with three "black shirt" extra figures for $105.00 - those seem to be priced really well for the collector.

I wonder if Andy is going to expand the Italian troops of the Axis Desert Command ??

I havent bought any of the EA figures due to the size issue as well.

Overall the AK Germans are a great series in my opinion. :)
