How big is yours. (1 Viewer)

Well i can add another 5 market garden chaps & the jeep :) wish some of you guys would post pics of these massive collections.

Problem is......what do you do with all the boxes? I've managed to acquire

over 100 vehicles, 500+ figures, several diorama's 10 buildings and about a

dozen facades.....and still have all the boxes!

You could use them to save money on the massive fuel bills.....pop em in your woodburning stove :D

After years of collecting I have learned to always keep the boxes! For

example some of the older Lionel Train boxes are worth almost as much as the

trains themselves. Now finding the right box for an item.....that can be a

problem!

Approximate numbers would be as follows:

K&C Figures (WWII, ACW, Crusaders) - 972
K&C WWII Vehicles - 82
HB WWII Vehicles - 10
Britain's, Conte, CS ACW Figures - 535
Figarti WWII 4 Vehicles, 42 Figures
Russian Painted Figures - 24
That is an impressive amount, including those 24 Russian figures. I managed to get 11 foot and 3 mounted figures from St. Pete back when I had some money. The 2 mounted knights (both with banners) and the 1 Winged Polish lancer are the highpoints of my collection. They are simply gorgeous but there is no way I could buy them today as they currently cost $450-550 each. Glad I got them many moons ago. -- lancer

Yo Trooper, thats why your a Major General, your one of the smart guys. Did you see the Bozo from the States a couple of weeks back, had about 30 Old Britains sets from the 1950s and sold all the boxes off. Said when I go nobody will no which boxes they go in. What a WHALLEY.:(.
Bernard.

Despite the amusing title, it was a good excuse to take approximate count and discover I have more that I thought. For me, my top figure producer is First Legion (FL) with about 76. The rough overall break down is:
Napoleonics: 53 British foot (29 FL, 6 CS, 11 KC, 2 TB & 2 WB); 45 French foot (all FL); 8 French mounted (5 KC, 2 CS, 1 FL); 1 British mounted (FL)
Greeks Etc: 30 Spartans, 25 Persians, 30 painted plastic Spartans (all Conte)
Romans: 20 Roman foot, 20 Barbarians, 5 mounted Romans (all Conte); 8 Roman foot & 2 Roman mounted (EoI)
Zulu Wars: 7 Conte; 7 WB.
Diecast Aircraft: 3 1/32, 4 1/48 & 20 1/72 (Corgi, Hobby Master & Dragoon)
Diecast tanks: 11 1/72 (Corgi and Dragoon)
Plastic Knights: 16 90mm (Schleich)

Oh well, miles to go I guess.;)

Have you some photos of your Antiquity-Times Soldiers, special Spartans and Romans?

Cheers

Rod.

Yes you make another excellent point! I have a nice file with photographs of

each item, its number and aprox value, just have to make sure the wife

doesn't fine it while I'm still around!:D

I thought about this in case i drop dead one day and want my wife to sell it all and make a few quid.So i put a list in every storage box along with a picture of the item,so in the event of my demise my good lady just has to match the picture in the box to the item on the shelf. It will take her ages but would be worth it.All the storage boxes are numbered and in loft.I'm not planning on going anywhere, but just in case!;):D

That's an excellent idea. I have all my boxes (except for my hollowcast Britains, era 1930's) and they are well organized but I am the only one who knows what goes where. When I croak there are going to be some people around my home tearing their hair out trying to solve the puzzle unless I get off my butt and do something like you did. -- Al

Thanks Al,i've even highlighted for her the items i THINK(!) are most valuable(winter Tiger/SL's etc),in the event of me going to the Toy shop in the sky every penny will count for her.

Yo Troopers, same as Njja. This is one easy way to keep track of your collection. Everytime I buy a new item, I take a photo and have my own HP photo printer for instant photo's. Then write on the back of the photo what it is and the date of issue, what box they go in, if I think its a scarse model. Never put the price I paid for the reason dont know what the market will be in the future, just hope I have bought well and they will increase in value. Then just put the photo in and album. So far there are 200 photo's in this album, so ready to start another one it so easy to keep track off the collection.

I've got my collection categorized online but I haven't had the time to count all the pieces. Suffice to say that its high time that I started selling some parts off before collecting anymore. My dilemma is that I really like my existing collection and removing pieces would be painful. I'm hoping that if we have improved rereleased items that my existing ones can be replaced with improved versions........otherwise I'm in trouble.

For what i have so far i printed a pic of the item & wrote date & how much i paid, then put it in the box. Will be nice to look back if it has gone up in value much later. I might start making a list of some kind though. Ordered the AK 027 field gun today :)

Don't worry there is always something new you will like. Keep all the special pieces that you really like, but I'm sure there are lots of items you find you could exchange for new releases!:)

"I have more than 200 vehicles, 71 aircraft, 16 dioramas, 40+ buildings and facades, and too many figures to accurately count (I would estimate I have more than 2,000)."

Pretty incredible totals; this may sound way out in left field, but with all of those items, you may want to consider building a huge room to house it all in and call it a museum and be kind enough to invite folks over to see it and have an anual get together of like minded collectors to check it out.

What?.................................Oh, nevermind............;)

Well, I haven't counted how many figures I actually have, but I keep a detailed Excel spreadsheet of my collection that shows the item number, description, price, date of release and date of retirement for sets that aren't limited in numbers. Also, my wife knows where it is on my computer just in case something were to ever happen to me. I have posted my collection below. I know it isn't near as an extensive collection as some others have posted. I don't show it on the list below, but I do have some items for sale at Sierra Toy Soldier and Michigan Toy Soldier. I have sold quite a few sets from my Napoleonic collection. I at one time had every matte finished piece K&C had released.
