As a lifelong Giants fan, former season ticket holder and a man who was at the 2000 NFC Championship game to watch the Giants clobber the Vikings, I have to say that this was one of the most satisfying games of my life!

Of course, congratulations to the Patriots, and good luck in Arizona, but I really believe the one team that can give the Pats a game is going to play them in the Super Bowl. If the Super Bowl is as good as this overtime NFC Championship game, it will be the best ever!!

I am pulling for your boys, Louis. I am an AFC fan (KC Chiefs born and bred if couldn't tell) and your Giants have two players I hated to see leave the team - Kawika Mitchell and Lawrence Tynes - so I am in your corner.

Go Giants!

I have two extra bedrooms (1 sleeps 2 and the other sleeps 1) for rent during the Super Bowl week. My house (Peoria,AZ) is about 18 miles to the stadium.

Sleeps 2-$1000/day and Sleeps 1-$500/day or both rooms at $1200/day

PM me if interested. Will post/list to other sites after 01/24

How bout them Giants huh???

No surprises there, I knew they would beat the Packers. Hats off to them, great year- they laid a royal smackdown on my Cowboys- IN TEXAS NO LESS!!

I gotta still take the Pats by 10, though I really don't care who wins the game. The pats D is still giving up long drives but they stiffen up at the goal line. Brady throws 3 picks in the AFC Championship and they STILL WIN?? Typically that is a recipe for disaster but the fact that they can still win, even when he throws a pick in the end zone, just shows how strong they are.

The Giants- especially Manning, need to remember this is a 4 quarter game- I saw Garrard from Jax and Rivers on Sunday just make horribly ill advised throws in the first half which resulted in turnovers and TDs for the pats- if it isn't there, Don't force it- get em on the next drive.

It's gonna be a good one and the two best teams will be out there.

As a Packer fan all I can say is, grumble, grumble, grumble. If I said anything else I'm sure I'd get a violation. Bleeping zebra's.

Oh man!! Tough break- I'm with you- at least the players from your team weren't crying on TV and looking ridiculous- the Pack had a good year and just got beat by a better team- I had to swallow that when my Cowboys got smacked.

Must be real tough being a Packers fan in the Windy City!! :D:eek:

Can't be much rougher then being a Cowboys fan in Steelers/Eagles country. I do catch a lot of flack though, but it's my nature, rebel without without a pause and all that. Just can't go with the flow, Lemmings go with the flow and they leap off cliffs.

Borris,

My team won, but I have to agree that I thought this was one of the most poorly officiated NFL games I've ever seen. Among the incorrect calls which directly effected the outcome of the game were:

The ruffing the passer call against the Packers on third down (how do you pull up when you are blitzing full speed and the throw is literally a split second before the hit?) -result Giants touchdown (just for the record the earlier illegal contact call on the prior 3rd down which negated the interception was correct, the Packer cornerback clearly made contact with Burress more than five yards from the line of scrimmage).

The unnecessary roughness penalty called on Giant's DB Sam Madison after the third-down tip completion at the 25 yard line brought up 4th and five. If any flag is thrown on that play, it should be off setting penalties after the play was over - result Packers touchdown.

Holding penalty on Ahmad Bradshaw touchdown run at 2 minute warning. The replay clearly showed that was a clean pancake block, not a hold. Worse "holding" occurs on every single play which is never called, especially as the "hold" in question occurred five yards behind the play - result Giants lost a touchdown.

Missed offside call on third down sack of Eli Manning. The Packer's end clearly moved into the neutral zone in advance of the snap, no call was made - result punt on drive into Packer's territory instead of first down at packers 37 yard line.

Those are the blown calls that jumped out at me which had a direct effect on the final score of the game. I'm sure there were several more, as the ref's seemed to throw a flag on almost every play.

For years it seemed to me that NBA ref's were having too great an impact on the outcome of the game, and now it has come out that several NBA ref's were gambling and fixing games. I wonder if similar evidence will eventually come out about NFL ref's, as they also can completely change the outcome of a game with 3 or 4 bad calls.

Gordon Gekko lives.

Well, Louis I am glad you support your team - and it is my team for the SB - but did you notice that in your outlining of the calls which most effected the game you cited 3 against the Giants and 1 against the Packers?

I'm really just busting your chops but I think it highlights our preferences. :D

Now, if you would like me to highlight the 128 calls that cost the Chiefs 6 victories - and thus a shot at the SB - I would be happy to oblige.

Until then - and please spare us all - let's go Giants!

Eric

I would disagree about this being poorly officiated. If anything, the Giants (and I'm a Giant fan) got the benefit of some of these calls, especially in the first half touchdown drive. The call on Madison was justified and I heard that the Giant radio guys were all over him for that.

Regarding the holding call on the Bradshaw td, that is a call that will be made every time, especially as Bradshaw was on the same side of the line as the offensive lineman.

On Monday I listened to Boomer Esiason on WFAN in NY and his view was that the officiating was ok. They missed a couple of calls he said but not atrocious.

At any rate the Giants won and the better team that day won so the officiating is just a secondary issue.

On one Giant drive alone there were two penalties on the Packers on third down and one on fourth down salvaging disaster for the Giants and eventually leading to a Giant touchdown. I know there were bad calls on both sides KGB was in the neutral zone and I'm sure there were others in the Packers favor, but I just hate it when they call a penalty on virtually every play and control the game like they did.

I would guess at some point they will prove they've been fixing games or point shaving, but it will be harder to prove, a zebra can call holding or illegal contact on almost everyplay and these penalties have a huge impact on the outcome of a lot of games. The truth is there is holding and illegal contact on every play, why they choose to call the ones they do has always been a curiosity of mine.

I have believed that referees have had a hand in fixing games since the 70's. I could be wrong, but I doubt it, there's too much money involved in gambling for there not to be fixes and point shaving. In some cases ignorance is bliss and the less we know the better off we are. I know it sounds sad, but that's what I believe.

Spoken like a true New Jersey native. Afterall they are the New Jersey Giants aren't they?

LOL, it is pretty funny when the largest US city has to outsource its teams to Jersey where they share a stadium. :D

I'm posting this as I cross Lake Champlain but the team never wanted to be known as the NJ Giants which is why they are still the NY Giants. They play in NJ because they couldn't get a decent stadium in NY, same with the Jets. The Jets would have liked to be in NY but there as no good stadium proposal.

Brad, what is the significance of "as I cross Lake Champlain", is it something like crossing the Rubicon?
