I short Apple call options. It has been a bad years for Apple.....Translation: it has been a very very good year for the expansion of my collection. I.d would be very happy (as would be my suppliers) if Treefroggers spent their extra currency on toy soldiers rather than Apple products.

Shorting a sale refers to the practice of selling shares that you don't own and then covering it by buying shares at a lower price so you make a profit.

Sandor, thanks, although it's more of a trading practice. You can also do the reverse, called selling long.

Whereas in a short sale you sell first and then have to cover, you're betting the price goes down. When you go long, you buy low and sell high (the normal situation).
