how much do you spend on average (1 Viewer)

This is clearly some form of mental illness, since I am right at it again this year. Let's see, I am currently putting an order together for more than $3,000. I already have spent more than $1,500 at the 2006 West Coaster and $878 on eBay.

On my way to the New York Symposium I met a young man from the UK who is currently working in Chicago but was on holiday to Manhattan for the weekend. We got to talking and I explained where I was going and a bit about toy soldier collecting in general. I happened to have my latest copy of Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine with me and showed him some examples of what is on the market. His comment about the enthusiasm and zeal of collectors was "Don't you think they have some sort of mental problem?" He didn't get toy soldier collecting at all and had never even heard of the W. Britain line. I guess you just either get it or you don't.

You are all insane, I tell you. Insane.....I'm am happy to be in such company.

I have to say that when I was collecting real militaria and I knew my uncle collected toy soldiers I thought the same, I thought why would anyone spend money on a toy soldier if they could spend it on a real artifact and I guess in some ways I still think like that.....he collected britains...BUT.....when I discovered K&C I became more interrested so I bit the bullet and bought my first sets...since then I have come to appreciate the work that goes into the figures and I have once again met some great people........

When it comes right down to it, isn't that what collecting is all about.... meeting new people and building friendships?

Cheers
WELLINGTON....:)

Oh yes did I mention that I'm insane as well!!

Shannon, that young man is right. I think we do have some sort of "mental problem" but I think this is endemic to collectors whatever their hobby may be.

When I read Mike's (ucla) post, I was reminded of Victory's quote, which I used recently, "oh, the debt."
