If you can afford it, no.

If you're having to sell a kidney on ebay, living off bread and water and drink diluted beer in order to fund the hobby, then perhaps just a little.

I would suggest simply collecting within your means and not getting too carried away. I've seen other members state that they'll have a few 'dry' months before a big show, to save up for a big spend, which seems to make imminent sense. If only I had the self discipline.....:(

Oh, and just a thought on this poll. I noticed on the other forum that some members had had their ID hijacked by their wives / girlfriends.

As it's a public poll, some (myself included) may not want to run the risk of their partners finding out just how cheap this hobby actualy is.

Just for the record dear, in case you happen to crack my password, it amounts to no more than £5 - £6 per month.

Well i dont tell the wife, but im sure she can guess:eek: Plus theres the covert operations in getting the figures into the house in the first place ,i know my postman that well he delivers straight to work even if its got my home address on ,he knows the score!
Have had to become more and more sneaky in adding new additions to my collection ,"i havent seen that set before",she will say ,i say "oh ,its an old set ,its been in loft ,just thought id display them":D

Hmmm,
I could see a new thread coming up here with collector's top ten tips on how to decieve or bypass interrogations..:D

Just remember before you hit the submit button; anything you say can and WILL be used against you in a court of law (divorce court that is:eek: ). Please think long and hard before you make any statements as to your toy soldier spending. If you can't afford a lawyer one will be appointed for you by the forum.:D Just keep in mind that your future exwife will probably end up with all your toys ( she'll most likely sell them on ebay and you won't be able to afford to buy any of them back)!

Be careful what you say. Over on Toy Soldier Chat, a few spouses have come on and posted (allegedly) and on this poll you can see who is spending what.

I don't mind the wife knowing how much i spend,as she had to get the second job to keep me in soldiers its only fair!!(only kidding)

My expenditure often varies,as some months i buy direct from K&C UK and other times i buy vouchers from them to save up and spend at the London shows. This will be a real treat on 2nd December.

Actually letting the wife in on the hobby can sometimes help. She walked into the study last week and pointing at my latest purchase(NMA'S Sturmtiger)she said "i've not seen that one before".I said "yeah have had it ages love!!"

She will then name some of the tanks she knows and by wife standards she knows loads of them.I find after a while my enthusiasm for WW1/WW2 rubs off and she actually enjoys it in small doses. She often astounds family and friends with what she knows about the battle of the Somme/D day etc.Actually when i think about it i'm very lucky indeed...better go do some housework!!

I'm very fortuante, my wife doesn't give me any grief and in fact she occasionally goes with me to shows and shops.

I never seem to spend enough. My wife at various times supports my hobby and likes to go to the shows. Sometimes though my spending approval will get a sudden backlash of complaints like "do you really need that?' I say " no more orders for awhile." (meaning next week).
Like the private policy notice you get with bank letters I also have one. I cannot supply classified information to my family. I been known to hide orders when they arrive behind car in garage till nobody's looking then hustle them down to my hobby area. Reminds me of the chipmunks and squirrels hoarding nuts for winter. When asked" I never saw that before", I say it was around awhile. I guess it is kind of pathetic but I enjoy playing the game. Leadmen;)

Its funny, when I was single it seemed the girls I was dating were always asking questions about my collection, showing an interest, attending shows or going to toy shops with me. Now that I'm married, the only interest the little woman shows about my collection is questioning how soon the third floor will be finished so she doesn't have to look at it anymore. On the other hand, she never questions my expenditures (the blessing of making multiples of your wife's income and paying all the bills is that you never have to explain yourself). The curse, of course, is paying all the bills.

Well i'm glad to see i'm not the only freak, just today i purchased two sets, WS083 and FOB016. I ran home from work, almost killed the cat, ran in the basement opened the boxes with speeds that even speedy gonzales would see as being fast, places the figures in the display case, hide the boxes (and bill) ran up stairs... I knew she was coming back from work a few minutes later, as she walked in the door, and god knowns how the hell she knew, the first thing she said to me was "So what did you buy". Now was it the sweat on my brow that gave me away, or the fact that i was panting like a dog... who knowns, but this girl is too sharp, can't seem to hide her anything... accept the bill ;)

When I came back from Chicago I had one bag of goodies. I then dumped my clothes out of the suitcase and put the rest of my boxes neatly in and closed it back up. When I showed her my bag of goods her reaction wasn't too favorable. I waited until she went to bed then brought in the suitcase , unpacked them, put them in my cabinet , hid the boxes, and finally made it to bed. When she complained I was over budget on the first bag I knew she mustn't ever see what was in the suitcase. Smoke and Mirrors :D I'm not "allowed" to buy anything until December. So I'm trying to figure out my greatest trick yet how to hide thirty or so boxes arriving on the first that everybody is holding for me:rolleyes:

More victims providing evidence for their better half. However, I wonder if everybody is being honest, eh Chuck?
