catchy title eh,:D

If I wanted to inflict some battle damage on a K&C vehicle (very very occasionally a cheap vehicle can be nabbed on ebay! and figure its cheaper than the 2nd hand market for destroyed vechicles:D) what would be the best way to do it.
Thinking of vehicle getting hit by mortar shell or being blasted by a stug,

would a hot poker, flame or soldering iron melt the polystone to inflict a blast hole ? Would flame blacken it?

Sacrilege I know but any destructive suggestions appreciated;)

I would have thought that a tile drill bit on rotary only at slow speed would be the most controlled way of wittling a few bits of polystone off. You could then use a blade, metal pick or similar to scrape and chip away to get the desired effect.

Got to confess I've never actually tried this, so it's guess work.

A naked flame over the damaged area should give a scorched appearance.

Have you considered getting a cheaper vehicle to damage, such as a 21st C? Appreciate that the scale may be slightly out, but it might prove more forgiving on the wallet.

the best way to take bits of is with electric tools, sanders and drills etc. Drills designed for modelling especially good as small. They give you a great bullet hole effect.

you can burn items and the best and cheapest way is with a Chefs torch. if you close of the air inlet you get more of a yellow flame and then more soot.

I'd suggest a drill bit with a masonary tip to represent projectile penetrations, first marking the drill point(s) with a felt-tipped pen.

However you do it,its a brave man that mutilates a prime piece of armour!

A Dremel power tool is your best bet.......I've done it a couple times and it really adds to a dio!

I personally think that you are out of your frigen mind.;)

Buy a FOV or TFC or some other cheaper and less valuable over time vehicle. If you have an overwhelming desire to destroy your K&C vehicles, mail them to me (I will gladly pay postage) and I will return to you a more suitable (more suitable in my mind anyway) substitute.;):)

To be clear....I have never done it to a new item. Ive been asked by a dealer or two to "wreck out" items that have already been damaged in the course of business. I also did one for myself that came damaged from an e-bay purchase. Its a viable option in you have a damaged item rather than just tossing it out. And they do add a fun aspect to a dio.

Ok, now that you have explained your reasoning, I can accept the idea of destroying K&C. It does make sense to use up the already distressed. Maybe I could drill a few holes in me and call me a casualty (get it? - already distressed):eek:

As well as the techniques of working with polystone, please don't forget the weapon-to-target relationship. That is, a StuG would fire a 75mm AP at a Sherman leave a modest (about 3") entry hole in the armor, but firea 75mm HE at a truck and really rearrange the body work. A German "88" would leave about a 3.5" entry hole in a T34, but a Panzerfuast would only leave about a 1" hole with a scorched area around it.

No my friend but don't be surprisd if a trial is called for and the verdict is to lynch you......The Lt.

thanks for the advice about the best tools for the job , might 'practice' on TFC first , the dimensions for the expected blast holes is a great guide, looking forward to 'flaming' some battle damage on ,
don't worry michael , the Tunisian Tiger is safe...................for now:D:D:D

Yup, once the UK wakens up later today, I'm quite certain there will be calls to convene the Village Court for a double-quick scan of the evidence (or more likely, application of the thumbscrews), and then it'll be a date with The Hanging Tree for Mr Redhugh.....unless the miserable sinner publicly repents his intended misdeeds.
LOL....;):rolleyes::eek::rolleyes::)
Cheers

The best way to destroy K&C I have found is to drop them or knock them off the table when setting up dioramas - not quite what you intended I suspect?

I've always found a hammer to be "quite effective"......
