HUGE collection....is Quantity important at all (1 Viewer)

Hey George,

When I say "played with" I mean to set up different scenes, new dioramas, working out a story and such ... as so many of the collectors on here do.

AND ... you and your massive museum quality Civil War, WWII and Napoleonic War dioramas are just an example. ^&grin

On our loooooong 7 to 17 hour drives to the shows we had discussed the "enjoyment" in researching the topic, laying out the boards, setting up the scenery and placing the figures. Then finally photographing the setup and sharing it with others here, on T.F. and other locations.

That is a LOT of fun. It can take many hours to do all of this .... but that is what this hobby is all about. {sm3}

When you have every inch of space occupied like this gent, then I don't see that he could do that. Then again maybe it was a continual setup and display when you consider 250,000 figures.

Hummmmm ... If I were to buy 250,000 JJD, K&C figures, planes, etc ... from you that would be ... lets see .... ummmm? ... something like $12,500,000.00 {eek3} {sm2}

Gee, I could do maybe $12,500,000 if I could have a price break? Would that be free shipping?

Ok, thanks for the clarification, not sure "playing" is how I'd describe it, but I get your point.

I'm sure the owner of that collection spent countless hours setting it all up and probably more countless hours retreating into his man cave to view his work; sad to see him passing away and his collection peddled, no one gets out of this alive, so it's the circle of life as they say.

If you can give me a third party out of state check with your astronaut application, library card and Waldoboro Historical Association membership card as three forms of ID, we'll be good to go on the 12.5 million we both know a frugal fella like you has that much coin buried in the back yard, so whip out your metal detector and get to it..............

Had a chance to scroll through the auction listings and after viewing a lot of them, I have to dial down the overall value. Raftloads of Deetail WWII, ACW, Cowboys and Indians, knights and turks, all of which are not worth a whole lot, quite a few of the "Timpo" figures are in fact "Transogram", which are worth a lot less.

A number of boxed Airfix sets too, some of the boxes are pretty beat up, plus no way of knowing if the sets are complete.

There are some gems in there as always, but I see little if any Britains Swoppets; their value has cratered the past few years as well, but they still fetch decent numbers.

The real money is in the Star Wars and Legos from the 1970's, mostly the stuff MIB and still on the blister cards. Raftloads of comic books too, no clue on the value on those.

Still, a massive amount of stuff, a lifetime worth of collecting.......................

Well I reached out twice to the auction house with questions and got no response either time, so I'm out.

These people are clueless the way they broke the lots out, just piled figures into bins, how are you supposed to bid on something when you have really very little clue as to what you are getting.

A real shame, they are doing this individuals estate a huge disservice.

In addition to the final selling price, you are also paying a buyers premium to the auction house, plus UK buyers have to pay VAT and taxes, international buyers have to pay by wire transfer, plus the shipping terms and conditions are sketchy at best, I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole.

If this auction was taking place in the US, I'd drive to wherever it is (well, within reason, probably as far as Chicago west and Georgia south) and bring a van and be in on a boatload of the lots as long as I could view them during a preview, I'd probably be in for at least 10 large, maybe more.

Good luck to anyone who bids on the items.
