Does anyone use Humbrol Matt Enamels for painting toy soldiers?

Robert

I have in the past, but I only use Humbrol Gloss now a days.

Jeff

I have also but, now use Vallejo as they are a really nice paint to use both in brush and air brushing. I sometimes use model colour and Tamiya but rarely

I too have switched to gloss but have 25 tintlets of matte if anyone would like them. Just let me know and I'll mail them to you, preferably in the United States.

On another note. What gloss colors do you guys use to mix your average European flesh tones?

Robert,

I use Buff No7 mixed with a little Red No19 which gives a nice finish.

Robert,

I always use HUMBROL, and have done for about 40 years.... Oh now I'm showing my age :)

I use both gloss and matt, but finish with either a spray of matt varnish or paint on gloss varnish depending on the required finish.

I use HUMBROL Flesh for European skin tone, but add a touch of red to bring our cheeks and lips. Thats the only colours I mix. I use the best match stright from the tin, because many times I've beena sked to paint more figures to match, and mixtures can't be matched. Also I like to add to my colletcion, so the same colour matches in nicely.

This is the latest figure I've painted with Matte HUMBROL Enamel... a Stadden 90mm Grenadier Guard. Note the gloss varnish for the shoes and the ammo pouch.

That one looks great to me. Is there a mat equivalent or does that mix only work for gloss?

John just curious what matt spray you use?...No one sell Testors dull coat down here that i know off.
I have used the Wattel matt spray from the Hardware store but have problems with the nozzles after just a few go's....I got sick waisting money on them.
Have had good results with Humbrol Varnish the only problem with that is you have to make darn sure its mixed right or you end up with a very glossy sticky figure .

As for paints i did start out with Humbrol but now i paint everything with Vallejo.
The pic below is a figure i did paint with Humbrol.

Yes, its Wattyl Matt Varnish and YES, I also get some problems with thier nozzles blocking up.

I make sure I give them an upside down blow after finishing, but sometimes have to use a pin to clean them or even paint stripper!!! Maybe I'm a bit of a miser, but I hate to waste paint when I've paid good money for it :)

Yes you do have to mix the paint up thoroughly too and it takes some time to dry, especailly in winter, but I just love the finish I get with Humbrol, so I keep using that for all my work.
