Humvee repaint (1 Viewer)

Thanks Kevin! Nice to be able to return a small piece of inspiration. I'm still in debt to you on the inspiration front mind.

Ray,

Have you got yours through yet? I'm curious as to how they square up to the K&C SF03 Humvee in terms of size.

:D:D:D- Here's looking at you kid!!

Seriously though, I was thinking on this a bit- rather than trying to paint the letters on there, perhaps create a miniature stencil. Afterall, bumper numbers and most other little bits of information were stenciled on by the vehicle operators. Perhaps you could create a mini stencil and just apply it to the bumper and paint over it- might work.....

I'm honored Sir!

I actually went to my wife, a nurse, immediately after sustaining said injury.
In hindsight, I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, but got the treatment in the form of a word. "Idiot", as I seem to remember
Can't really argue with that diagnosis.

Chris, before I go and butcher my remaining 9 fingers and thumbs, I'm going to have a sift through some of my numerous unstarted 1/35 AFV model kits, to see what I can find in terms of transfers. The good news is that I now know roughly what I'm looking for.

Simon,
Had to send for some research material, I got 2 units. just finished with the LRDG vehicle so that had 1st priority, size wise there very close to the K&C humvee, very workable. I'm kinda slow on these projects but after seeing the shell wlindsay built for the opel truck to make it an ambulance I saw a humvee ambulance that I thought might be interesting.
2 Things,
1. I saw where Archer transfers just came out with a set of 1/35 decals for humvees in Iraq.
2. do any of you have experience with the Figarti modern marines? size wise?
I like to covert a couple of figures whenever I do one of these projects and I'm looking for suitables for medics?

I wear my "idiot" as a merit badge of honor :)

Another thing I was thinking on as well. When I was in, some of the guys were able to but black nametags over their section of the windshield.

For example, the driver would be "PFC Ramirez" and then whomever Ramirez is driving "SFC Charleston"

These stickers were about 6-8 inches tall at 1:1 scale so at 1:32, they would be tiny. I think they may have done away with it altogether- I think it may have been a company commander (Captain's) call on whether or not units did this sort of thing.

One funny thing happened to me the other night- i was moving my T-62 and the Saddam picture fell off- the little insert of his face. I placed it on the hood of my SF03- looks pretty neat that way.

Oh, another thing (man, you've got the wheels turning tonight), in Korea, we placed a roll of contertina wire on the hood- not sure if they still do that or not.

Watched the "Generation Kill" show yesterday. I saw mostly ragtops rolling around but there was one hardtop.

Thanks for the additional info Chris. I've got another 'hard top' to start, along with a couple to chop in to convertables :D I'll look at filling out one of the convertables with whatever gear I can find knocking about, or make up.

Could still do with finding some 1/30 scale heavy weaponry to mount up on these vehicles mind.

Glad the accessorizing of your SF03 is going well :D

Cool, never thought of an ambulance convert, but I bet that would look pretty neat. Cheers for the heads up re the Archers set, I'll track that down. Should be close enough in scale to get away with it, and will save me going blind trying to paint them on.

Re the Figarti Iraq War sets, I've got a lot of them and they're pretty good. I'd say that the figures are some of the best Figarti have put out. I would class them as a largish 1/32. Height wise, they're pretty similar to the SF04 Marines, but the K&C guys are fuller in figure (obviously got all of the MREs). The most noticable difference between the 2 manufacturers is the head / helmet size, but they could work together. Some comparison shots of K&C, Figarti and just in case you're interested, McFarlane 3" range (too skinny for my liking (apologies for the lousy photos, but it should give you an idea):

Also took some comparison shots of various Humvees:

Maisto 1/27 repainted, FOV 1/32 (tan) and Figarti 1/32 (green)

The Figarti and the FOV vehicles are almost identical in size, but there's an obvious difference with the Maisto Humvee.
And the Maisto + Figarti with K&C and Figarti marines next to them:

Look forward to seeing how your convert comes out.

Simon,
Great pics, you've answered my question, itl ooks like for the most part the Figarti line is compatible. As I often mix and match arms, legs, and weapons I'm sure they'll work. Who would have thought the Figarti Humvee would look the smallest???
