Hussar Royaux (1 Viewer)

I clipped the figure to the horse (a very tight fit) and attached the tiger pelt firmly.

I further sculpted the tiger pelt including the head and tail. Holsters were added under the shabraque. A sword was added. The sabretache is being made and two heads are being resculpted as I misplaced the earlier heads. An axe accessory will be added.

I modified the axe head and attached it to the figure. The sabretache was resculpted and added to the figure. The two severed heads are being sculpted.

I resculpted the sabretache as it was the wrong pattern. The heads were mostly sculpted and attach to the figure for further detailing. The figure was attached to the base for ease of handling.

Been off my game for a few weeks. Flu and cough. Anyway, I tried to make the best of it by working on incremental projects such as updating forgotten pieces.

I also added more fur to the sides of the tiger pelt. The heads were given a wash of dark colour to outline the features.

Now starting to add the bits and head harness to this piece. I added more mane hair to the horse.

Starting to move on this piece. The tiger stripes were painted. The horse colour is to be changed to contrast this with the bearskin.

Hi All,

There were several of these Austrian freebooters eventually recruited as French Hussars from the time of Louis XVI onwards.

I had initially made one of these figures during the pre-Cambrian period. This was mounted on a W Britains horse with real hair for the mane and tail etc. I think that I can do a much better representation now and I had wanted to redo this piece but Baron wisely advised me to start anew in case I screwed up. Then I won't even have the original figure to beef up my figure count....:)

So I scrounged around for some leftover bits and found a most suitable horse and mounted figure. I have decided that Historex figures look really stiff when assembled as such so I removed the upper half and decided to sculpt all of this.

The face was also completely sculpted as I wanted a unique face.

Nice Piece !

Hi Markster,

Thanks for your nice comment. The horse has been painted except for the straps and the groundwork.

It's been a while since I last worked on this. This is the stage at which I last left off.

I decided to extend the groundwork and glued pieces of cork around the edges. Then putty was added and more groundwork was added with white glue.

I painted the groundwork and it's starting to look good. I'll scatter more foliage around after the paint is dried.

At this stage, I determined that the hands were too small. Hence I substituted larger hands (scalelink) for this figure. The chopped heads were removed to facilitate adding the left hand.

I also took out this piece to complete it. The heads were finally located after a search.
I just have too many unfinished projects and after a while, the parts get secreted here and there....

Finally got round to detailing the heads again. I should really try to finish this piece as it is near the end pt. I added the moustaches to the heads.

Painted the heads, giving them a grisly look and colour. I painted areas of the figure which needed highlighting. Removed the fence to do the ptg.

Finally finished this piece! Restored the fence and added foliage. Took pics all around.
