I Am Being Punished! (1 Viewer)

I don't want to hear any of you guys complain, I'm a Phillies fan. They're the losingest franchise, of any sport, of any franchise of comparable age within the sport.

Yes, the Phillies were the first team to 10,000 loses weren't they? That's quite an accomplishment, but they did win aworld series not too many decades ago. Go Flyers?

Losingest? Depends how you define that. In the last 58 years, they've been in three World Series and won one. I don't think the Cubs can say that. If you look at the Washington team (Senators until 1960, Senators after 1960 -- a new franchise as the original Senators moved to Minnesota -- and the Nationals), that's not an enviable record. I believe the Senators won only in 1924.

1980 was the last time they won. The made it to the Series in '83, only to lose it to the Orioles, 4 games to 1. They made it again 10 years later, in '93, only to lose it to Toronto, 4 games to 2.

Before 1980, we have to go back to 1950 for the Phils' last pennant, and before that, 1915. And both of those Series were losses, too. In 1950, they were swept by the Yankees, 4-0.

So it's 14 seasons, from the first World Series, until the Phils even make it to the championship, then 35 years till the next appearance, then 30, then 3, then 10.

So it's amusing to hear Cubs fans, for example, or any New York fans, grumbling about their teams. At least Boston fans have had a winning streak now for a couple of seasons. All we used to hear out of them was "If only Bill Buckner hadn't let that ball go through his legs!"

Louis, I was a football Cardinals fan also, so my football pain goes way back.
My biggest lament is that hockey is my favorite sport and the Blues have never won a Stanley Cup.
I would give up the Cardinals World Series wins and the Rams Super bowl for just one Stanley Cup!

Allright, I forgot 93, so that makes four times since 1950. The last time the Cubs made the WS was in 1945 so while NY Yankee fans don't have much to complain about, compared to the Cubbies and the White Sox, Philadelphia, relatively speaking, doesn't have much to complain about either.

Sure they do. It's part of a larger complex, I think. Ever since the national capital was moved from Philadelphia to New York, it's been all downhill.

'Bout the only thing Philly has going for it anymore is Tastykakes.

In that case Gary, I feel your pain. The football Cardinals are the sorriest team going.

I don't follow hockey, but it must stink for your favorite team to have never won a championship. You are certainly not a fair weather fan.

I'm with you Gary, Hockey rules. I grew up with Bobby Orr and the Big Bad Bruins, but now with the Pats, Sox, and Celts, Boston has become Title Town USA. But I'm waiting for my Bruins to join into the fun, the B's are going to be a tough team this year, watch.:)

Yeah and let's not forget the Flyers Stanley Cups or that the Eagles were NFL champs in 58 or59, plus if I remember correctly the 76er's have at least one championship in my lifetime.

Now in football how many teams do not even have a Super Bowl appearance, Lions, Saints, Jaguars, Browns and oh yes those poor Cardinals.
