I hate it when ebay sellers use stock photos (2 Viewers)

I just got a K&C set I won on Ebay. I looked at it and noticed a figure was missing, so I rechecked my auction. The auction clearly shows the figure in the photo, but at the end of the description of the item states "This set has been displayed. It is in great condition and comes in the original box. It also does not come with the German prisoner. " I have no problem with the displayed part, but as I read it fast the "It also does not come with the German prisoner." part is written poorly. It reads as if it does come with the figure.

My rant though is people using a stock K&C photo, especially if it does not come with all pictured.
 
From a purely grammatical point of view, the "also" would only make sense if in a preceding sentence he had said something else was not included. As written, it's misleading, probably unintentionally. If I were you, I'd try to return it on the basis that the description was misleading.
 
I agree that using stock photos is wrong but I also think that reading an auction "fast" is also equally wrong. You really gotta read up what somebody has to say - the devil is in the details so they say.

I read everything about an item I am considering buying. They took the time to say something about it.
 
I am taking part of the blame for reading it too fast, but I also look at the photos to see what I am getting. I have purchased many items before from the same seller and had no issues. It is a big K&C dealer, and no I will not mention their name.
 
I think if it's a big dealer and you have purchased several items from them before, to keep you as a customer, not to mention a happy customer, they should take it back.
 
Wow, that is REALLY poorly worded.

"It also does not come with the German prisoner."
The word ALSO should have not be in that sentence.

I would have written:
Note: such and such figure not included. (Especially if the photo DOES show the figure, you really have to make the exclusion stand out in my opionion).

I always use a different color font to highlight a specific point in the description..Michael
 
I don't think it was poorly worded at all !! He said it didn't come with the figure. I do agree however that the photo should have matched the discription.
 
I agree in this case, bad use of a stock photo. But let me put out the flip side under normal circumstances. If I am selling something that is new in box, never displayed or removed, I will not take it out to photo it. I will look at it to make sure no damage, but I will not handle it in these cases. I use a stock photo so as to keep the figures as new as possible.

I agree with Tom. I usually use a mixture of both stock and original depending on what I happen to have on file.

It is really the bidders responsibility to read an auction today before you bid.

Especially when you consider the fact that some people actually will call an item mint even after they tell you it is missing pieces!:eek:

Here is an example of a fairly rare Dinky listed as Near Mint with a $399 price. I supose the large chips highlighted on the box.....really don't matter.:eek: There is also a really large one on the front bumper!

Yes, I have to agree it is our responsibility as buyers to read and ask the proper questions (notwithstanding what I said yesterday). I've been guilty of that and I just blame myself.
 
Like I said I take the blame. I have seen other people use stock photos, but either cropped or Photoshopped over the items not included.

Hey we feel your pain, everyone has had a bad experience or two on ebay!

Perhaps since you said it was a large dealer, you will be able to work

something out.

I'm going right out tomorrow and buy a new dictionary, I'm going to find

one that says Mint=Missing Parts!:p

Interesting, but consider the fact that quite a few collectors don't keep the

original boxes!:eek: I believe this is changing since we have spoken about it

several times now on the Forum. An item can be Like New without the Original

Box, if it has only been removed from the box and put on display with little

handling. A lot of Collectors will say an item is from a smoke free home, which

is important because items (especially boxes) can pick up the odor. This can

be removed by using charcoal and airing the piece, but when you open the

package it can knock you over!

More and more collectors are keeping the Original Boxes, but to date they do

not command the same value as they do with other items like Lionel Trains.

I have plenty of things without original boxes which are "mint" otherwise. I would never call that mint but, sure, something can be in perfect condition without its original box.

In fact, something being stored in it's original box for years and years can cause damage.
