He is ok but his base is bent out of shape and I was unable to pull it flat again with my bare hands. He is important to me as he leads a platoon. Help! Would a ballpeen hammer bang the base back into shape?

Typical Englishman, thinks he can walk all over a proud Highland clansman with impunity.

In all seriousness, if you post some pictures I am sure the folks on here will provide some more specific and excellent advice.

I would try soaking it for a minute or two in very hot water and then trying to bend the base back into position with your hands.

If you need extra leverage you could try gripping the base with some pliers and rag over the base to protect the paint. Go easy though.

I would be hesitant to use a ball pein hammer.

Pictures would help, but failing that, yes, pliers with cloth wrapped around the jaws to protect the piece should work. I'd even use pieces of wood between the jaws and the piece, to protect it from damage. Popsicle sticks, for example.

Under no circumstances would I take a hammer to it, unless I wanted to damage it further.

Prost!

Throw away the hammer. Warm the piece/s as much as possible. Gentle bending ONLY.

If push comes to shove - and nothing works and it snaps off - Make a new base from sheet metal - or cast one. Repair legs and pin to base - then repaint.

Pictures may help -

Good luck - jb
