A few years ago I purchased a load of metal miniatures from a builder that had done a house clearance for a new owner prior to starting work. Rather than skip the minis he put them on FB and I purchased them. I was only interested as I'm a collector of sci-fi and fantasy miniatures and he had a load of Games Workshop stuff (Imperial Guard Praetorians which are basicaly 28mm brits from Anglo-Zulu war but with laserguns..........)

Anyway in with all of the 28mm sci-fi stuff was another box. I barely glanced at it at the time, I opened it up took a look and saw it was a load of 54mm historical and stashed it in the shed. I've been going through loads of old hoarded stuff during lockdown and I've finally gotten round to taking a look at this lot.

As far as I can tell it looks like a load of Mountford Metal Miniatures stuff. Mainly Zulu war Brits and some ACW stuff. i 'think' there's also some Hinchcliffe in there and also some painted Last Stand Miniatures stuff as well as some Yeomanry Miniatures bits.

I think this stuff may have been cleared from a casters premises as there's an awful lots of bits and pieces in there such as a large zip lock bag full of a pair of hands holding a field map pieces - about 100! Also bags full of identical heads and also what looks like some master castings that have been used as dollies for variants etc - these pieces have new sculpted additions and copper wire for seams etc. This theory could well make sense as I've discovered that Mountford was based in Duckmanton which isn't far from me (and I popped my cherry with a girl from Duckmanton! ahem)

Anyway, I thought some of the older, wiser heads on here would know more than me with a view to ID'ing some of this stuff and a possible valuation should I look to move them privately or via eBay. I think some would find this little lot interesting.

I'll post pics over a few posts as I can only attach 5 per post.

Thanks for looking

Last batch of pics. There's six boxes of the Last Stand stuff all in the same condition. There's a load of stuff in the baggies, some W Britains stuff in the bottom of the box with the sandbags - all sorts!

Do you have any idea who made the sandbag pieces?
Thanks
Benjamin

I think they may be Britains though I'm certainly no expert - it's me that's here for the IDing

By the look of the faces on some of your figures, they were probably sculpted by the late Allan Caton who was a member of this Forum.

As far as the maker goes, I would suggest Yeomanry or Mountford because Allan did work for both of those companies over years, and they depict era that bot made figures for.

I don't see then in the catalogues that I have, but maybe other British collectors will be able to help you?

I sure hope that you manage to get some of them assembled and painted as they will look very nice all set out on a miniature battlefield.

Keep up posted?

John

What a stash.....
As to the bagged items in this set of picutres, I can make out a bag of Gurkhas heads, Indian army Shiks most likely and WW1 soldier´s with Adrain helmets .... most likely French, but given that the US and other countries used these Adrian helmets then, they could go in may optional projects. The sole figure using an overseas pith helmet is a Henchcliffe British Artillery gunner....part of a bigger set that would have the mountain gun and other members of the garrison. And last is the bag with soldiers wearing some type of Panama hats....by what I could see they seem to be Boers ( I would be interested on them...if you wish send me a PV )

I would recommend trying to sell these on e-Bay as they seem to be in most part either extras for someone´s projects or parts of one. Except for the boxed items.
Cheers

I have just checked and the sand bag redoubts are recasts of the JG Miniatures ( from the time JG carried the Zulu War series - no longer a catalogued item ). Interesting sets for someone that wishes to add to their Zulu War series, or even other periods up to WW1. But not later....

Thanks for the help all.

Some of the bags make me think this was from a casters collection/clear out or someone close to one. Some of the bags have a code written on them and after all, who buys a bag with 100 field maps (with hands) in there?

I'll be popping the lot up on eBay soon. If there's anything anyone would like please send me a message with a sensible offer.

The boxed gatling gun by the way contains two gatling guns and there's several other artillery pieces. I'm not sure if any of them correspond to some of the figures, there's quite the variety!

That's all of it except for some of the bags of heads and maps.

Edit: and the painted Last Stand stuff.
