Ideas for WWII Dioramas (2 Viewers)

I was recently looking around for contemporary photos for some ideas I have for a street fighting WWII diorarma.

I would like to highly recommend a book I picked up through abebooks called "Bloody Streets - The Soviet Assault on Berlin, April 1945" by A.S.Hamilton.

It is a hefty tome, coming in at 403 pages and about 13" by 10" in size.

However it is heavily illustrated throughout with many contemporary photos which I had never seen before. They show prepared German positions in and around Berlin, combat photos, many photos of German and Soviet armour and artillery, the aftermath and general detrius of battle (eg. knocked out tanks and artillery).

Naturally 88mm's, Panthers, Panzerfaust's, T-34/85's, IS-2's and other heavy Soviet tanks figure greatly.

The extensive text gives a very good idea of the intensity and visciousness of the street fighting.

Could you tell us a little about the book, ie, the basic layout, how detailed are the maps, etc, etc; would love to pick this one up, but 155.00 clams is a lot to lay out if buying the book blind so to speak.........

I really like the layout. It starts with some background on the leadup to the offensive including, disposition of forces, defensive plans etc.It then goes into a day by day account of events starting along the Oder right to the end of the war. Each day it cycles through the various relevant sectors including the Furhrer bunker. There are numerous actual situation maps but once the battle gets into Berlin aerial photographs are used and unit IDs and positions are superimposed onto the photogaphs. This helps a lot in keeping yourself oriented. I also kept Google Earth handy to keep track of what was going on where.

I got my copy from RZM at a more reasonable price. Not sure if they still have them though.
