Im a young collector!!!! AND I know lots of history! (1 Viewer)

I'm also a young collector, just turned 18. I was hooked ever since I was a kid, watching movies like Zulu, Hell is for Heroes, A Bridge too Far, Son of the Morning Star, and many more. I'm looking into a military cadet program next year so I may be forced to take a break from the hobby, but after college I look forward to many more angry girlfriends and empty wallets ^&grin^&grin

Regards,
Mike

Hey, I'm also looking into a number of military colleges (I go to a military school now)! I am mainly thinking USMA, VMI, or ROTC at Dartmouth- which actually shares a program with Norwich!
On another note, from the perspective of having successfully collected while at a boarding school, its not too hard. I just have them sent home, so when I get home leave, there are a bunch of boxes waiting for me. It's a great "welcome home"!

Hello Dave:

I enjoyed your message too and hope you continue to have a splendid time in the "toy soldier" hobby and the study of history.

Not West Point, Norwich University. {sm4}

Mike

You guys should seriously consider going to West Point. I go to RMC which is Canada's version of West Point and the guys that come up here on exchanges have nothing but good things to say about it.

Cool! What year are you?
I am in the process of applying to West Point. I have also considered doing ROTC then applying to Saint Cyr.

Oh I am still a newbie just going into year one but some of the exchange students have started arriving and I was talking to them in the mess.

No I haven't heard that one they have plenty of other names for us though...

Sorry- what I meant was are first year students known as plebes in Canada as well as the US (not "do West Point students call you guys plebes")?

Welcome to the forum, Dave! I see you're in Jersey--do you get to the shows in our area, like the MFCA show and the East Coast show (Hackensack)?

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your collection and your future posts here in the forum!

Oh, and one other thing--don't disdain cartoons, at least, not the classic Warner Bros. cartoons. They'll help you learn. You need to know something about American history from the 30s and 40s, as well as classical and popular music, to understand all the references ;)

Prost!
Brad

You may very well wish to check out Norwich. They were the first college to adopt ROTC programs, and their Cadet program is in many regards superior to that of USMA. In school, I was a bit of a slacker so my grades were not high enough to allow me into West Point, but if you can get into any Service Academy, it's a major step up for any career in the military or law enforcement {sm4}

Personally, I bet I'll be making a few orders each month and having them sent home, by the time I finally get home over break I'll have half of the 24th Foot waiting for me. {sm4}

Best Regards,
Mike

I read your thread, your love of history and this hobby, and your desire to join our military service. It has been awhile since I served (1966-68) and left the service as a Sergeant. My family and my wife's family have a long military history going back to the Revolution. Family members served in the Army, Navy, and Marines and with the majority in the officer or non-com ranks. Good fortune in your military endeavors and in this great hobby.{sm4}

It's always nice to see young collectors. I myself am 23, but young collectors are definitely outnumbered.
